Default SHipping Track wheel/OEM Tires, Dilemma with UPS shipping Prices~!

They quoted me $350 to ship (4) Track Wheels and OEM tires.

Does this sound about right?

They also quoted me $127 to ship just the wheels?

Thoughts, any alternatives.

BTW, they said they had to be boxed and (2) wheels per box.

Who here has sold wheels/tires, how much did you pay, ect?

I shipped Track wheels and tires from NY to Canada. It was less than 200.00 and I had them package the shipment. It went out UPS ground.

wheels/tire cannot be boxed...wheels alone can. A set of 18's cross country is about $80-$100 via ground depending on insurance, signature requirement, etc.

I take it you don't have a UPS account? Whatever you do, DON"T use a UPS store, as they are ridiculously more money

It should be a standard price by dimensions and weight. Who ever quoted that price is way off.

Contact one of the local tire and rim vendors in your area.

UPS gives them a break on shipping from a business that you cant get at the UPS store.

Thats what I thought, I did go to a UPS store, great, just another damn middle man to charge more flipping $. No, I don't have a UPS account. I guess more checking around. Hell, I might just save the hassle and put them on my Roadster, (I'm not hard up for the $)

seriously, vendors get amazing prices for UPS. i have saved so much $$ by shipping through my local tire vendor.

try putting 2 wheels to a box, and you have to ship the tires separately, but you dont have to package them at all. ask your local wheel and tire vendor if they have boxes big enough to fit 2 wheels in, they usually do, just separate the 2 wheels by a piece of cardboard.

My 19" Volks came UPS Ground wheels with tire mounted in a box. I had 4 VERY large boxes left over. I would recommend you take measurements, find boxes to fit the wheels with tires mounted, package them yourself, and take them to the UPS Store.

You guys are speading false information. The UPS Store charges the EXACT same amount for ground shipping as going directly to a UPS shipping location. Go to the UPS website and you can calculate the cost for ground shipping then go the UPS store and it will be the exact same. I have done this multiple times myself.

Yeah 2 wheels in a box or 4 wheels in a box would be best. I still like how places like Discount Tire Direct ship them simple with just cardboard between and no box tied up with straps. I don't see why you couldn't ship them that way if you can't find a box, since they use UPS as well.

what i did was i went to the "ups store" and special ordered 4 boxes for $51.50. their dimensions were 28x28x12. i would ship them via fed ex ground because they're ALOT cheaper than ups. i'm guessing shipping should be about $30-40 a box so about $150 total.

Fedex ground is the way to go.No need to box the wheels/tire combo just cover the wheels face with cardboard and they will accept it.MUch cheaper than UPS.

UPS has shipped wheels for me with the face covered with cardboard but they were covered with plastic wrap and shipping straps also. Thats how most wheel and tire combos ship.

One more option you can look at is going to a freight forwarder.

What a freight forwarder does is block out space with a container (might go rail, truck, or air). When they have enough to fill the container, they ship it. If you can wait, this is probably the cheapest way to go (plus you might have to meet it at a larger, hub city, but it's the sacrifice you make for cheap shipping).

reaon shops and stuff are charged less is because they are volume shippers.

Your best bet is to ship each tire/wheel individually. If you band them together you put each pair easily over 70lbs and then you have to pay extra beucase its too heavy and requires special handleing.

Also shrink wrap the hell out of them and put straps then take it like that to a UPS
