Default bfg KD vs KDW2

I've been reading the threads on these two tires but no one seems to have any info to directly compare them to each other

has anyone driven both?

anyone want to chime in with their experiences?

according to tirerack - the KD's have a dry traction of 9.5 via the survey

as of today the KDW2 is now 9.4 (yesterday was at 9.3)

I know that's just one factor and it's just opinion anyway

But some people say the KD are in a different league than the KDW2 - way more grip etc

Other's say it's like 95% the grip of the KD

I am going to want to upgrade my tires for my daily driven Z. I know the KDW's will last longer and by quieter etc. But I do live in AZ and it rains like 10-12 times a year, but when it rains, it RAINS. I don't mind replacing tires every now and then.

I can get either 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 KD
or 255/40/18 and 285/40/18 KDW

anyone have any info comparing the two? how does their sidewalls compare? Recomendations?

I didnt try the KDs but I loved my KDWs, they look great and perform super. A+ in my book.

If it doesnt rain where you are... go KD's... wont last as long as KDW's though...

the KDW's are like raiding on rails in the rain though... KD's i doubt are...

i just got kdw2 in the back and they are really sticky. Now if I could just replace my fronts with kdw2 or s03 I'd be set for some canyons.

I've driven quite a few Vettes with the KD's and a few with the old style KDW's. The KD outclassed the KDW by far, except for in the wet of course.

Here in AZ, I'd go with the KD's myself if I wasn't worried about treadwear. They won't hang close to the KDW's in the rain, but luckily we're in the desert.

what they said... if you think you'll have to drive in the rain, get the KDWs... otherwise, the KDs are much better, but will wear more quickly.

I've ridden in Zs with a few different brands of tires and will never put anything but KDs on my Z now.

I went to the BFG Kick-Asphalt Tour two years ago and got to ride in a Z with a profesional driver a few times with the BFG KD's and then one a few times with Bridgestone Potenza S03's. I had the S03's on my RX7 at the time, adn since i went with a local shop they hooked me up with a set of KD's for cheap and I swear, I will never buy another tire but BFG KD/KDW, absolutely amazing difference. The BFG's just bit through the corners where the SO3's would push, I was amazed.

I also rode in a SRT-4 with the BFG KDW's. They were awesome as well, but its not comparing apple to apples with different cars.

This is the same debate I'm going through. However, be aware of one thing: it can be extremely difficult to find a 255/40/18 in either the KD or KDW. Even though BFG's website says that sizing is available, I'm having a hard time finding it. I contacted TireRack, and they said they couldn't get a 255. My next set of tires will be a 255/275 combo, and I wanted to use a set of KD or KDW tires. However, I might have to go with S-03s just because of availability.

If anyone knows of a place selling the KD or KDW tires in a 255/40/18 size, post the place here!

I actually talked to a TireRack sales guy 2 days ago and they didn't have either the KD or KDW in a 255/40/18 in stock. He even said they weren't even available.

That was my reaction, too.

Oh, and sorry everyone for de-railing this thread a bit. At least it was *sort* of on topic.

Chris, sent you a PM a couple of days ago but haven't heard back from you yet. Just wanted to make sure the PM got to you.

Basically, I just wanted to check that the two sizes of KDW tires you have in stock are the same version. I'm after 255/40/18 and 275/40/18. On your website, those two sizes are different versions from each other. (version 1 and version 2) I'd want my set to be of the same version.
