Why are Volks so much $$$ ?
I'm going to go with 18x8" wheels once I get my Z, but my question is, why are Volks so expensive?
Are they better quality than most other wheels, our do you mostly pay for the name?
I'm also considering Exel - Ennio (Gunmetal) wheels because they look great & are much less $. I'd like to get opinions on these:

Volks are pricey for a few reasons...
First, they have to come across the pond. Shipping isn't cheap. Second, they use top of the line materials in manufacturing as well the processes they use.

The Volk wheel line is made and manufactured by Rays Engineering. The reason they are expensive because they are such high quality not just the name.
First they are forged. This means they are strong, durable, and relatively light weight.
The forging process is the aluminum with tons of compression that make the rims surrounding barrel ultra strong. In short the rims will hold up and not bend from potholes, cornering, and low profile tires.
The wheels go through high standards in Japan similar to DOT approval here. Japan and Europe are even stricter then us. The standards of Rays Engineering meet and far exceed these standards in these countries.
The finishes of all Rays Engineering wheels are perfect. The lips are clear coated and the centers are powder coated with zero flaws. They do not need metal polishing and are sealed from the elements which makes cleaning them easy.
Lastly the machining that the wheels go though is top notch, intricate, and precise. They are the most sought out wheel in the world because they are the best (hence the expensive price).
You pay for quality on Rays Engineering (Volk) wheels. I have yet to see a wheel of better quality to be honest with you.

I knew Volks were high quality but didn't quite totally understand why until I opened my wheels out of the box when they were shipped in.
All I have to say is "Wow!"
Everything is so immaculate and perfect down to the air caps. The clear coat, the finish, the fit...everything is truly amazing for just wheels. Theres so much detail.
After inspecting them VERY closely I realize they're actually more of a bargain than being "expensive" considering the other pricey wheels on the market.
As corny as it sounds:
I realized I'm getting wheels from the land where they perfected and meticulously forged light and deadly Kitanas for centurys.
No wonder even German BBS wheels have a forging plant there.

These are amazing rims and I can attest to it.
Unfortunately I've hit some pot holes and curbed all four of my wheels. Mostly due to the other drivers who cut me off and I stupidly reacted to dodge. (in the rain)
Now when I curbed these rims I was devestated but they are strong as hell. Still perfectly straight as if nothing happened. I am impressed and now I just have to find someone who can fix it/refinish it.

The reason why I went with volks was because the wheels were race oriented(not my particular model) and strong. They have the offsets and widths of a custom maker but they're more readily available so you don't have to wait half a year to get your wheels.
In that sense, they're pretty pricey for high quantity produced wheels, but cheap compared to a complete custom setup.
Perfect for a performance wheel that encompasses all of those traits though.
