Default Rim Lip sticking out further than tires...

I need some help and some suggestions.

I installed some 19" rims/tires on my Z yesterday. I noticed that the axis hiro rim lip sticks out further than
the tire. There is no protection for the rim. Tire sizes are fr - Falken 245/35/19 9.5", and rear - 275/30/19 10.5".
There is a gap between the tires and outside lip of the rims.

I asked a person at Jo-Tech if they looked right (I was unsure because I've never had 19's before). They said no, something is wrong. They said the tire sizes were correct, and maybe it was the brand of tire (Falkens). They said they have installed tires on this brand of rims before and never seen them look like this.

This really pisses me off. I will call Wheels Discount tomorrow and ask them if they inspected the tires before they shipped to me (their ad says they inspect before shipping). Jo-Tech said they should have caught this before they sent me these tires.

I bet since I've driven on these tires, they will not give me my money back. The only other alternative I have is to ask discount tire if they can give me some credit for these "almost new" Falkens in exchange for some tires (maybe Nitto's) that will protect the outside lip with no gap between rim and tires. I wish I hadn't driven on them, but being so excited, and not having 19" rims before, I unknowingly drove on them, although I knew something didn't look right.

I don't think I will ever buy another rim/tire set on the internet w/out seeing it in person. Live and learn.

Has anyone had this problem or have rims that stick out further than the tires? Any suggestions?

I will try to take some pics today so you all can see what I'm talking about.

your rims are very wide..I think Discount Tire set you up with those sizes because you would rub if you got bigger tires..

I thought the tire is supposed to help the rim not rub? Also, I got the tires/rims from WheelsDiscount.com. I will go to discount tire tomorrow to see if I can get some credit for an exchange.

Thanks.

Default rubbing

What he was trying to tell you is what all these vendors that sell these specialty rims are giving you is a tire that is reccomended by the specific rim you buy. Also what he meant by rubbing is that if you do get biigger tires so that they stick out and protect the lip, you will rub on your fender when hitting small bumps are when making turns, you do not want that. Just dont park alongside curbs and you will be ok, Or get a lift kit. lol. good luck, post some pics if you can, I would like to see your ride, I bet they look sweet though. BEN

On the Axis Hiro 9.5/10.5 setup I was told that 255/285 is recommended. That might explain your gap. I was also told (and others on this board have verified) that this setup doesn't result in rubbing.

275 is too narrow for a 10.5" wide wheel. I have 275 on my 10" wide wheel and it's not perfectly flush with the lip. Next time around I will be getting a 285.

I sent axis an e-mail asking them if they've had problems w/ Falken tires fitting. I guess I should have went w/ the 255/285 tires.

The only other thing I can think of is that the rims are 19.5" (not recommended for this falken tire, so it says on the sidewall), but I doubt axis makes a 19.5" rim.

I have to buy some batteries for my digital camera, and I'll have some pics by tonight.

The rims and hotchkis springs do make my car have a "meaner" stance.

255/285 does seem correct. However, I have 255/275 on mine 19x9.5 F & 19x10.5 R +22 but with 35 series tires versus 30 series. The height of the tire will bring it out some just a bit. If you do get the 285 I believe 30 series is recommended (285/30/19)......damn I am confusing. I hope this helps.

Yeah............Those don't fit. Its so bad it looks like the tire isn't even seated in the rim. I would take those off.

UC I'm no tire expert, but that looks really bad

I can't see how any tire place could even ship those out the door

The rims look hot, but that gap is totally uncalled for

Time to get

If you can email the picture to the dude you bought them from and tell them you want the correct tire

Hope you can get that fixed b/c I know you won't be happy with that look at all.

I e-mailed the place who sold me the tires. I'll see what they say, but I'm not optimistic about the outcome. I'll probably have to take the pain, and fork out some more money for a new set of tires. This kinda stuff really pisses me off.

If the place I purchased these from gives me some BS, I'll tell everyone to stay away from them and hopefully they will lose some business.

It was almost like xmas for me...until the Grinch sent me these gapped rim/tires!

DO NOT go driving on those, they are asking to come off. Hit a hole wrong going 60+ you can kiss your rims goodbye (maybe even your car) go get them fixed, looks like they are mounted wrong, even if they are too small they should seat on the rim properly. those dont seem to have seated correctly
