is it okie to run front 225/40R18 and rear 235/40R18??

 

Nothing wrong with your setup but I'd run 225 in the rear as well.

Keep as narrow of a contact patch as possible. For example, I run 215/65/16 all round on my 350.

I plan to eventually purchase a set of 225/45 (or 40)/18 all round on my Performance rims. No issue with VDC running a non stagger setup.

 

yeah you are better off running the same width all the way around and to make it as narrow as possible, i have 225 all the way around. only thing here is to make sure that you maintain the stagger you will need a higher sidewall in the rear. cant recall mine for sure but i think i have 225/35 front and 225/40 in rear. last thing: man its damn near april, i feel sorry for you having to think about snow tires this late in the winter or should i say on this the first day of spring.

 

So i better running higher at the rear? or running with 225/40 all around is ok??

I was thinking about geting snow tires all winter long.... Then i calculated the costs... And bought a jeep wrangler...

 

you need to keep the stagger, with rear being as close to the .5-.75 inch higher. thus the higher sidewall ratio. if you error on the short side and get a front to rear stagger that is too close to even or maybe worse a rear that is shorter, then the cars computer will think you are spinning the tires when you are not. in order to fight this you would have to turn off the TCS, and in the winter that is something you definately do not want to do!!!!

 

so i will have to run 40 in the front and 45 in the rear?

 

something like that. use the tire calculator provided in the forum section about tires. put the sizes in and as long as you come within the .5-.75 you are money. i would guess you can get that by either a 45 or 50 series depending on the brand you are buying and what they offer. the big key is to just make sure the widths are the same and as narrow as you can manage for the width of the rims. like someone said and i said earlier the common width is 225.

 

well i just found the tire calculator and quickly put in the sizes: with 225/40/18 front and 225/45/18 rear your stagger would be .88 inch higher in rear. a little outside the stagger recs from nissan but very managable. i would say if can get good deal on these then go for it.

 

may u guys let me know where is the calculator? i am not able to locate it... and the problem is the only size they have for 18" is 225/40/18 235/40/18 245/45/18 235/40/18...

 

i found the calculator, and find that 235/40/18 front and 245/45/18 rear will be only .64 stagger... would it better?? however, it wouldn't be as good as running 225, right?

 

i would say that 245 is too wide for a snow tire, especially on the rear drivetrain. but then again we are only talking small changes in dimensions so for avergae driving it may not be too noticeable. if the deal is something you cant pass up then go for it. otherwise look at other brands of snow tires for different sizes available. i have blizzacks, but also michelin makes some very good ones as does some other brands.

first priority is to make sure you keep the car's computer happy by keeping things as close to stagger as possible. second in line is the width, cause even though the width of the tire does make a difference, narrower the better, in the end its the tires tread pattern that makes it an effective snow tire, whether its 225 or 245.

anyway, 225/40/18 is shorter than stock, right? anyone have any experience with dealer giving hard time? becoz of running smaller tires???

so my only choose would be 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 front with 245/45/18 since it would be the only rear that will be heigher than front...

 

I've run two winters and a full summer w/o stagger. I can assure you that I used VDC everyday in the winter and there's no issues when you run without stagger.

Your call I guess, but IMO non stagger allows better rotation, looks more balance asthetically (who care with winter steelies on though) and moves some of that front bias to the rear.

Nissan has built in a certain buffer to account for non stagger such as rear tire wear compared to front and running a spare donut tire on the back.

I've heard that running a smaller rear tire compared to the front does cause havoc to VDC though.

 

so it is ok as soon as the front and rear being the same height, or rear being higher?

 

I've run the same size front/back Blizzak LM22's on my wife's touring for two seasons with no trac control issues (granted, the car doesn't have vdc since it's an auto). I wanted the same sizes so I can rotate the tires and extend their tread life.

 

rear has to be the same height or slightly taller than the front.
