Default Removing the Spare wheel

What will it do beside lighten the rear end of the car.

Hopefully i will receive my 19" rims, and to be honest there is no point in having the spare wheel as it's an 18".

Other than lightening the rear end and making it "looser" so to speak, anything other +'s or -'s?

She will also be lowered and sway barred, plus the small added weight of the rear spoiler.

Thanks

I thought all spares were the same and were 17"?

Just have fix-a-flat and AAA coverage.

My Z comes with 18's as standard, 19's are on their way. hence no need for spare wheel.

Default Spare Tire Issue

If the spare tire is removed there will be a weight distribution problem between the front & rear how severe not sure! What are the repurcussions of doing this?

The dealer informed me, parts guy, that all Z's come with a 16 inch spare except for the track z which is 17 inch. I am assuming this is because of the brembro brakes. That is the problem I am having the spare will not fit since I upgraded my brakes to brembos! The cost of new spare (tire & wheel) is about $300. For now I am using one of those portable air pumps with a can of slime for a spare!

Have you noticed a difference in the handling of the car?

Only reduces 30 maybe 35 pounds , I had a trade off A speaker box so the weight is still there. Who changes their tires anymore AAA is the man. I have eibach springs its a pain to try and jack up at home there is no way you can change a tire on a lowered car without the proper equipment and thats not available on the side of the road...only had 1 flat ran over nail ...they had to bring the flatbed there was no other way they could get it towed and not drag it.

Yeah. Removing the spare tire is not going to effect overall handling of the vehicle. Lets say its 30 lbs... thats approximately .9375 or about 1% weight difference.

As long as the overall circumfernce is the same, the size of the rim really shouldn't matter. Just calculate the circumference and see if it's compatible.

ppl who have removed their spares and on stock springs... how does the rear end of the car sit? is it higher? i saw a pic a few weeks ago where someone who stripped their hatch (including removing the rear tire + jack) and their rear end sat 2 inches higher than stock

another reason for asking also is that by adding 19" rims, you are adding perhaps more weight to the car (I have 18" rays as stock), so bearing in mind the loss of bhp with additional weight, by removing the spare wheel you are hopefully gaining that additional weight back.

Does that make sense?

There are so many factors here that you would have to take it out and see how it affects performance. Of course the weight of the new wheels will have a big effect but most of the people get wider tires so there is more grip. This alone may negate the effect of straight line performance. As far as turning performance is concerned, again the grip will have an effect. I guess it really depends on how fine the Nissan engineers have tuned the suspension. I am not saying there won't be a difference but perhaps not enough to matter that much.
