I know a lot of the drift cars have this look--seeing as this is the "hot" thing to do lately, that may be part of it. I must admit I love the look of wide tires from the back (not to mention the increased traction) but large sidewalls kill it for me. For some reason the rims look bigger also on stretched tires, IMO. On a similar note, could one run 255/35/19 in front and 285/30/19 rear 10.5"? Perhaps achieving a wider contact patch with a smaller sidewall?

I'm not sure. I just look at the pics of the red coupe, and there's too much sidewall there. I come from the Euro community (VW's and Audi) and I guess I got used to the stretched look there. Something about having that vertical part of the lip stick out on the tire, just works for me.


GQ - you can run those sizes but your stagger is out of whack by a lot. I researched this quite a bit, and I couldn't find a 19" 255/285 combo that would stay in spec. If you run 255/285 on a 20" rim, then you are within the stagger spec.

Ok, that confuses me. A 225/45-18 tire (the stock front) is 13.0" radius, and 81.6" in circumference. A 255/35-19 tire is 13.0" radius, and 81.8" in circumference. They are nearly identical. If you pair that up with a 285/35-19, which is 13.4" radius and 84.4" in circumference, or a 295/30-19, which is 13.0" and 81.6" in circumference (the stock rear 245/45-18 is 13.3" rad. and 83.8" in circumference), you are well within stock specifications.

King Tut: I would love to run a 9.5" rim in front and a 10.5" rim in the rear - but I agree with you - I think that a 275 on the rear and a 245 on the front would look stretched - so I want to go 255 front and 285 rear. My ideal rim is the RH J8...which I understand comes in 10.5" rear, at a +26 offset, but may not be available in 9.5" fronts. Would a 285 series tire (or a 295?) fit on the rear without rubbing? There is NO WAY I'm rolling the fender - I can just hear the rust resistance of the panels giving way and the paint cracking......

As for the front, I think the RH J8 comes in only a 9" - which means I'm stuck with the 245 mebbe, for sidewall appearance purposes. I'd love to put a 10" rim in the front if I could, and run a 275 in front, if it would accept it. The RH J8 package I'm familiar with has the 9" in front @ +26....so how much rim and tire can I fit in front without mods?

I just ordered exactly the same Volk GTC's below but debating on the tire sizes. I have the stock suspension with no plans of lowering. If I went with the same tire sizes below without lowering. Would you think mine would rub? Thanks a lot!!!

Are you AT or MT for suspension? If MT, why would you change it and what would you change it too?

I'm 5AT...didn't know there was a suspension difference w/ Manual. Just concerned if 285's will rub on a stock suspension w/o any lowering.

I'm a 6MT, suspension will be Tein Flex + EDFC.

You will probably rub with 285's. When I did my research, it seemed like there was a whole lot of people than had to do fender mods with 285's. You can see from the pictures how aggressive the rears are - the lip of the rim is outside the fender well right now. I am pretty sure I'll have to cut the fenders when I drop it.

You can go for less aggressive offsets and maybe make the 285's fit. This site has all the options:

jlimquest: On the 05's, the 6 MT has a Sport Tuned Suspension Standard. The AT does not, but it's an option for you. For $1600 more, you would get the Sport-tuned suspension package.

Sport-tuned shock absorbers and springs.
19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels.
P225/40R19Y front and P245/40R19Y rear high-performance tires.
Viscous Limited Slip Differential (VLSD).
Aluminum pedals.

Darth Bobo: Why are you going with the Tein? Why not stay with stock and maybe put on some lowered aggressive springs? Why would you want to touch/change the Sport Tuned package?

I wouldn't mind it being lower, so what's the best options for the 05's?

Ordered tire and wheel package from bigwheelz.com in Calgary, Alberta. Waited about a month, they arrived ready to put on the car.

when i bought my z, it already has the rims and tires on it.
where on the rim does it have the exact rim size?
im going to need to change the rears pretty soon and i think i'll be getting something other than s03s'.. but i want a tire to with some more sidewall.. the rear is 285/30/20
