Default i bedded my breaks.. but..

so i changed my pads all around. i got hawk's in the front and put those on late last week and last night i put ont ceramic pads in the back.
Before i changed my pads.. ABS would work like crazy. almost every major hard breaking that i had to do.. ABS would kick in.. my car was a ABS hor.

Last night after i put in the pads, it was time for the bedding ish. so i did maybe 3 hard stops from 60mph down to 15mph and back to 60mph.. and about on my 4th one.. i started to feel the car reach the ABS threshold... so i stopped braking and accelerated... then i did another hard stop.. but this time i was able to push the pedal harder with out reaching abs.. and the next time i really hit the brakes.. but abs wouldnt kick in.. so i thought it was my imagination or something and i did another hard stop.. probaly pushing the pedal as hard as i could.. and i couldnt feel abs.

i would think.. theoretically.. this is good.. because it means my wheels are locking and are breaking effectivly.. but driving the car when abs would always kick in.. to not even feeling it.. its really weird. any ideas? or is this a good thing?

btw.. i dont like how the hawks got rid of that initial bite.. i miss that touchy feeling.. it almost seems like i need press the pedal harder to brake

I installed the Hawks as well and noticed the same lack of initial bite. I think that the design is made to work best when the pads are heated up. They don't fade as the OEM pads would. I think the drawback is the loss of initial breaking when they are cold. I have had them on for a few hundred miles, so far. I did notice a large improvement over time. As far as the ABS is concerned, I don't think the pads would really effect that too much. Find a little bit of gravel on the pavement and hit the brakes to ensure that the ABS functions are still working.

Hope this helps a little.

ABS is the Anti lock braking system. it keeps your wheels from locking and skidding about and possibly losing control when you hit the brakes hard or are in non-dry stable surface.

and i believe i wrote this around 8am.. so my apoligies for spelling brakes as "breakes" i didnt get my coffee

also i didnt use the oem backing plate.. and i dont seem to hear any noise..
so why again is the reasoning for putting the old plate on the new brakes? i get confused

i have hawks hps as well

i agree with you that the initial bite is gone, and that sort of annoys me.

but as far as abs goes, mine kicks in more than it ever has before. so i dunno??

Do not disable ABS!

Please read this article on bedding brakes.
http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedincontents.htm

Early abs intervention is not desirable in terms of feedback. You want to be able to modulate your force output on the pedal. If you lightly press the pedal and your abs kicks in, you have NO modulation ability. If you don't like the bite of the Hawks, I'd suggest the Axxis Ultimate pad. It will be more dusty though.

I have Hawks hps front and rear also. They stop like a race car. No initial bite? I don't think so. I guess I never bedded the pads. So it squeaks sometimes.
