What do you think? Newtires...or new rims & tires??
I have an 04 A/T Touring...with stock 18's.
I have never, and likely will never, take it to a track, and I don't have anything to prove to the cool guys in their neons with big ole wings bolted to the trunk lids and a muffler that probably cost more than the care did.
The only "mod" I have ever done is install an XM radio in my empty nav compartment.
I need new tires...I have just under 20K , and the inside of my front tires is gone...just smooth rubber. I called Nissan and they said that the 04's DO NOT have feathering issues...and that the alignemnt is going to cost me about $90. They will also sell me new tires. I am going to get the alignment, but I don't really want the same OEM tires back on, so I need a little advice:
I have read through here and the consensus is that the Mich Pilot tires are pretty good...what sizes can I put on the stock 18" rims...245/40F and 255/40 rear?? Will that affect speed-O or ABS?
What about buying a set of Nismo rims, and tires...then I could go with 245/40F and 275/40R.
Not sure what benefit i would get outta of new rims..other than they look awesome, but would I be a poser if I did that?

first off let me say that if you choose wisely my son, you will not regret wheels. second unless money is no object and you absolutely loooove nismo wheels...you can get better looking ones for cheaper.
Well I'm biased here, but I really like the Nismos. I don't think you can find much that compares in terms of quality, style, and construction at that price range. Volks, Racing Hart, HRE, iForged are probably better...but they cost more money (much more in some cases).
Rims are one of the upgrades that can really improve the appearance of the car...and if you get lightweight wheels that can accomodate wider tires you will increase grip and reduce unsprung weight as well. While acceleration/braking benefits may be minimal, the extra tire will be readily appreciable.

I was in your shoes a few weeks back.... Cost for the stockers is about $200/tire. I found an awesome deal on eBay wheels & tires for not much more than a set of stock tires. I got the Michelon Pilot A/S 275/245 and I couldn't be happier. These new wider tires give me much more grip, and they don't squeal as bad as the Bridgestones. I priced these tires at tirerack for a little over $300 each, but I'm sure if you are patient and look around you will find as good a deal as I did.

I was stationed at Langley AFB from Nov. 01-Aug 04...I am an air national guard guy, but spent more than five years on AD...(Allied Force, Enduring & Iraqi Freedom). Glad to have been able to do my part, but now I'm back in NW arkansas doing the wal-mart thing.
Thanks for the reply's...I did a lot of searching through the forums, and priced a bunch of tires...I decided to stick with my original 18" rims for the time being (but I will get the Nismo rims eventually), I went with Toyos TS-1's; 245'2 in the front and 255's in the rear (tires & shipping < $750). I had my alignment done two days ago...even with the badly worn original tires, the ride is smoother and a lot less noisy.
I will keep a close watch on the wear of these tires, and likely have my alignment re-done every 4-7 k miles.
