Need Opinions: Body Kit Or Not???
The more opinions the better.
I just recieved an 8 pc body kit for my new Z. Problem is that the kit is Fiberglass and will take alot of work to mold on.
I have got a few opinions on Fiberglass body kits from shop workers and none seem to be very good. I hear they crack easily, scratch frequently, and just dont hold up very well. I also hear that you have to be very careful driving around with them on, and if your not putting your car up for a show, then.....stay away.
I would have gotten a urethane kit, but they just dont make one on the style that I chose. So before I look into sending this kit back, I would like to get a few opinions from experienced individuals in regards to the fiberglass kits.
Is it worth it or not?

IMO bodykits are more trouble than they are worth. You'll constantly have to be aware of how close to park to curbs and parking blocks. Especially in a car like the Z that is already low to the ground.
I cracked my front going to a movie (so let's figure out the actual cost of that *already* overpriced movie shall we?). But...
I'm having it fixed and would do it again. I liked the Z, but like it more with the kit. That's me though, and you really have to make up your own mind. I really don't think you're going to find that many people who regret doing that type of mod.
I also bought wheels. If I curb them, I'll be more than pissed, but... I'd probably do that again too.

normal 4 pc bodykits (front/rear bumpers & sides) aren't that big of a deal in fiberglass if you get a good quality kit such as fiberglass reinforced plastic (frp) kits. FRP kits are more flexible and more durable. However when you get into widebody kits, you have overfenders and whatnot that have to be attached to the metal body. when you attach two different materials (3 when you count the material that is used to mate them) such as fiberglass and metal, you have different heat expansion properties which is what, more often then not, will cause the cracking. I've got a '97 Talon w/ molded sides and the cracking is very hard to notice. But it is there, and someone that is really **** would have a fit.
