Does anyone know if Nissan calibrated the speedo the same for all models or if the speedo is different on base & E models vs 18" models?

What i am trying to achieve is putting 18" after market wheels on my Z and yet have the speedo be accurate. Too bad the speedo is not programable as you change wheels/tires.

Is it easy to have the speedo recalibraded or is it too expensive?

All speedos are innacurate by some degree - a speedo that reads true at 30mph will not be true at 70mph & vice versa.

As long as you are there or there abouts everything will be fine.

I assume that the speedo calibration is common for all 350z's - if swapping out aim for somewhere near original, but don't be too much of a stickler for the exact match

F = 775.0 to 784.0
R = 754.0 to 768.0

Am I correct to assume the speed sensors are mounted in the front wheels? So if you were thinking of getting slightly smaller tires in the back for shorter gearing, your speedo won't be affected at all as long as the front tires are within the range, right?

 

Can we add offset to the information? The Nismo LM-GT4's are +25 in front and +30 in the rear.

This should be a good thread if it can keep on-subject and become the basis of a portion of a tire & wheel FAQ...

 

Just to confirm - offsets are shown after the wheel size (the + figure). I will post an update including some new info after this post.

That's really good info. I just wanted to point out something that I just learned, because I'm putting new tires on my stock perf rims. The front rims are actually 7.5", not 8". The Rays wheels are the only ones with 8" front rims. Just fyi.

 

Sorry infinite, you are incorrect. For 6MT Performance and 6MT Touring, the wheels are 18x 8.0 all the way around. It was old information where we had 7.5s up front. That is why some guys are putting 245/40 tires up front.

 

Well that's cool, I know I'm confused as hell as to which size is up front. The specs on nissannews.com say it's 7.5", but the manual doesn't list a 7.5" wheel. Oh well, I went with the 235/40 up front, I'm sure it will still look good.

 

The front tires should always be smaller than or the same size in the rear. Remember, the stock setup on the Z is 225/50/17s front and 235/50/17s on the back.

Stock setup for the 18s is 225/45/18 front and 245/45/18 on the rear. Your 235/40/18s should be fine on the front w/245/40?/18s on the rear if that is what you are changing to. The biggest tires always go on the back for the Z.

 

Oops forgot to give the size on the rear. Yeah actually I'm going 255/40 on the rear, to maintain the same size ratio with the front.

This is the setup recommended by Rays (Volks).

Basically if the cross-section of the tire increases (225 to 245) the second figure will decrease as this is a percentile figure relating to the sidewall dimension (45% to 40%).

This keeps things there or there abouts, but does increase the contact width.
