Default your tires after the stock Potenza RE040s?

Just wanted to know what people changed their tires to after rolling around in the stock potenzas. it seems there is a consensus that the stock tires aren't all great and i wanted to get a feedback on what people decided to get after. some people liked the avon 500 and 550...some went with the michellin pilots...if anyone can just state the mileage they have had on their second set of tires and their experience that would be great.

I just bought the cheapest Falken tires I could find to make sure the feathering and cupping issue is over! If not, its time to sell. Only have about a thousand miles on them so far, so too early to tell.

I love michelin tires! I have always used them on my previous cars. I just dont want to waste $1000 bucks on pilots before I know if the feathering and cupping issue is gone. If my current tires wear evenly, my next probably will be pilots.

Part of the problem, at least for conservative guys like me, is some of the "best" tires do not come in OEM sizes. My first chioce was Goodyear F1s but they do not come in 225/45 18 for the front. The F1s get rave reviews everywhere. I ended up with Toyo T1 Rs (replacement for T1 Ss) but not enough miles to give a report yet.

The Avon 500 get good marks & are 300 bucks or so less than the other "good"tires.

Whatever you get, be sure & get an alignment when you put new shoes on.

I went with the Potenza RE050A's in 265/40 x 18 on the rear (still have re040's on front due to feathering replacement). The RE050's are a much better tire than the OEM's. even though they're a summer tire they are rated much much better for wet conditions.

I have had the Kumho MX and don't recommend them from my experience.
I now have the Avon Tech M500 and love these, especially the price

I have the Dunlop Direzza DZ101's The price has come down since they came out earlier this year, very affordable now. There is even a $50 rebate going on!

Great tire... very stiff sidewalls. It was designed for track/drift.

FEATURES BENEFITS
High rigidity shoulder block. Delivers maximum dry grip and cornering power.

Silicarbon Matrix is a specially-formulated compound of silica and carbon black. Enhances wet and dry traction and performance.

Directional tread pattern and two wide, straight tread channels with long, oblique grooves. Pump water out from under the footprint for excellant grip in wet conditions.

Performance-inspired tread and sidewall design. Makes good-looking cars look even better.

Jointless Band Technology with a spiral-wound cap ply. Maintains the tire's structure integrity and enables smooth performance at highway speeds.

Max Flange Shield. Protects rims from accidental contact with curbs.

5-Pitch Technology minimizes subjective and pass-by noise. Enhances driving comfort.

Cheers, Ted

I don't know if I would have experienced the feathering. I only had about 2k miles before upgrading to 18" wheels w/ the Toyos and also had a 4 wheel alignment done after lowering the car.
