Default Has Anyone Run Dunlop SP Super Sport Race

I am looking to buy my first set of racing tires to stick on my back up set of 18" OEM Touring wheels. Tire Rack has the following:

235/40ZR18 Price Each: $120 Special

I read all the reviews on Tire Rack and looks like it will work good for an occasional track event or autocross. I also plan to take these to the drag strip as well instead of my 19" Volks which I will drive on daily. So has anyone used them? The only other tire I found in a good size was the Kumho V700 which is considerably more.

I have run these, but in 265/35-18 size. Even these were only $129 each - a bargain for a track tire. My experience with them is mixed. Fair grip on the track, but honestly not as much as I expected. Great grip from cold for auto-x though (I chopped nearly 3 seconds off of a 75 second course). I did find, however, that on the track, the grip level overpowered my Eibach springs, and I had more body roll in corners than I wanted. I also had some issues with chunking the front tires (which I attribute to understeer in certain turns on the track). The rears were much better, and it seemed like they would last pretty well in the rear. The good thing is that you can rotate front to back, and also from inside to outside on the wheel for longer use if you get one size for all four wheels.

The price/performance point is so good that I would absolutely buy them again.

Sounds good. I got the 18" OEM Tourings which are all 18x8 which is why I will go with the 235/40R18 all the way around. I will be ordering them soon and report back my feelings after an event.

I thought about getting a set of these, yet from all the reviews I read, these will not be competitive with the kuhmo 710's or the hoosier 05's when it comes to autocross, these tires are so darn grippy. yet they are double the price also.

I don't race competitively so I don't mind. I just want a good set of tires that will get me through track weekends.

If you are a dedicated racer or track junkie, I think you're going to be pretty disappointed with these tires based on the experiences of people I've chatted with at the track. On the other hand, if you don't drive your car that much on the street (like myself), then they make a great street tire. These will likely be my next street tires...
