I recently switched from my BFG comp t/a rubber and switched to a cheaper priced kuhmo ecsta supra 712's.

Needless to say I can NOT wait to trash these tires as soon as I can and go to a better tire. I get all kinds of wheel spin/slip and they're gawd awful in wet traction as compareds to the comp t/a's I had (can anyone tell I liked those comp t/a's alot?)

hmmm...BF's must be awfully nice. I've had good luck with the 712's on my Alty (haven't tried them on the Z, didn't see the right sizes offered anywhere). Wet traction with 180hp is ok in a front-driver, 'spose that may not be so hot with 250+ at the wheels.

Plus, I'd say it took really 1000 miles to get the 712's well broken in - with a wear rating of 350 vs. typical 150 for hp tires, no wonder.

Still, they must be better than the B.P. re040's - they have no grip and look like a 15k-20k mile tire if I've ever seen one.

I had Toyos on my last car and loved them. I think they are very comparable to the S03 and a little bit cheaper. I love the profile of the tire as it strecthes a little to allow more clearance and to prevent rubbing.

For those of us with the OEM 18" wheels, it looks like Toyo doesn't have our wheel size for the front (assuming you stay within the stock tire sizes)

Has anyone tried going with 235/40ZR18 up front? They do recommend an 8.5 width wheel for that.

I've been going through the list and I don't see any combination that would fit on the OEM 18's based on their recommended width size. Any suggestions?

I think most people that get the TS-1s go for 245/40ZR18 93Y in the front and 255/45ZR18 99W in the rear. This is the widest you can go in the rear (if you follow the tire manufacturers specs, plenty of people have gone wider) and gives you a front that goes up in diameter by the closest relative amount.

This is the combination I plan to go with when I buy new tires.

I paid $950 shipped for my Toyo TS-1's. Bought the 265/35/18's and 295/35/18's. That was the best I was able to do. I haven't autoxed them yet to compare to the sh*t stock tires...but definitely like them on the road. They are relatively quiet, don't squeal (good or bad depending on how you see it) and for as wide as they are, I don't notice any radical tracking. Lots of comments on the aggressive tire pattern, and the wheel protector lip is a huge plus.

Please do not lose faith in the T1S because of the FZ4. I hate the FZ4 also. THe T1S is a totally different ballpark. It has all the attributes I look for in a performance tire. The S03 does as well, but the weight is a killer on a naturally aspirated rotary. hehe. Track car. The S03 and T1S are just a toss up. I think the Toyo will take the cake most of the time in certain markets for weight reasons.

TOYO T1-S is a heck of a tire in my opinion, but there is lot of print/comments with the Bridgestone SO3's. T1-S continues to grip to the very end--and I mean the very end. I have never owned SO3's. At the end of June going with SO3's, replacing Pirelli, PZero (13,000 miles) Rosso's, which are okay, but take forever to warm up, don't perform real well on wet roads and is a tough as nails tire. We shall see how the SO3's do come the end of June. rich, san jose, ca

Chums: Toyo T1-S is a hella of a tyre. They grip right to the very end. Performance is consistent from the very start to the very end. Someone above me says Tirerack.com does not sell Toyo T1-S and they are correct. At the end of the month I am going with Bridgestone SO3's for a couple of reasons. One, to broaden my experience. Secondly, I want to see first hand how the SO3 performs. Nitto 555 was a very poor tire in my experience with them. They could not withstand the harsh freeways out here in Nor Cal. Blowout, left rear, that left me very reluctant to go with a low profile tire for many months. The event was very scary to say the least. A blowout or tyre failure at 80mph, number one lane, will leave you very cautious and proactive when it comes to future care of your tyres. Currently, I check tire pressure once per week using a good motorcycle tyre pressure gauge. Visual inspections are done whenever I am fueling up. Tyre pressure is checked when tires are "stone cold"--parked over night. Any large variation in tyre pressure says big things about that particular tire. Is there a nail? Sidewall damage? Wheel damage? A 5psi loss sends a big message that something is wrong and it can be picked up, usually, with a thorough visual inspection. Completely different animal. I've owned both tires... I like the T1 because it is cheaper, lasts longer and is quieter.

The S0-3 is the performance tire. That tire handled like a train on rails.... The drawback is that they get damn noisy, and cost more..and lasted, you guessed it.. less.

I wish my T1's handled like the S0-3's... They are sloppy as hell at high speeds. If you go on a freeway and wobble your steering wheel, the car wobbles all to hell. W/ the s0-3's, the car only moves when you move the steering wheel. That is due to the softer nature of the T1's beefier sidewall.

see, I totally disagree with narkotic...showing once again, how subjective this all is. I had a set of T1S's on my Z for 31k miles...was happy. I too had read about the "superior" grip of the S03, so when it was time for new tires, I took the plunge. Same tire sizes, on the same wheels...and I regret it. Granted, the S03 is a terrific tire. I do not find it any noisier than the T1S was in the least....at least not on my car with my alignment. The S03 does grip slightly better in the dry...but this is on the street, where frankly, one does not need every last ounce of grip.

Where the T1 gets it in my book is comfort...the car rode like a Lincoln with the T1's even at 38 psi.....now at 34-35 psi, the S03's slam me all over the place.

Even if the overall dry grip difference was 10% (and I honestly dont feel it is even that high), I should have bought the Toyo's again - I would trade the marginal extra grip for the increased comfort and significantly lower price the T1 affords.

toyo just came out with the T1-R, and i have been running on them for about a week. they rock. i had two sets of T1-S's on my car before the R's came out, and i was very happy with them. the R's have better tread life, grip better, and are quieter. the new tread looks nice also. they are supposed to compete more closely with the SO-3's, but are the same price as the T1-S's. they have also addressed the soft sidewall issue. another thing to consider is that the toyo's are approximately 5 pounds lighter than the same sized SO-3. why buy light weight wheels, and then run heavy tires?
