Default WHEEL SECURITY....Northern Va.

Hey, yesterday morning I awoke to find that all my wheels were taken. I got 3 other donut spares from the dealer so that I could get it towed *on a flat bed*.

The reason for my post is the tow truck driver told me that it was the second 350Z that he had towed (also in Alexandria) because the wheels were stolen.

I don't know why some one would take wheels that are unique to the Z which is not exactly a car that has saturated the market, but it seems there are some people in No. Va. that want these wheels.

Just wanted to let y'all know so that if you haven't yet (like me) got 1 or more wheel locks, you will.

VG

ps. I posted this originally in the appropriate regional forum, but wanted to post it here as well because this forum is probably the most viewed forum.

Sorry to hear that. That really sucks. I hope that is covered by your insurance for you! Or are you just going to get aftermarket rims?
and a TTT for more people to see...

Yep, my insurance covers it. I pay only $700/year for full coverage so I know I got my money's worth this time.

I'm also going to have them install 2 locking lug nuts on each wheel and have the wheels engraved with my VIN. Getting LoJack installed too while it is at the dealer.

A guy at the dealer had an idea that becase the wheels are 350Z specific and would stand out on any other car, they may be trying to sell them on ebay.

I see opertunity...
For the dealer MSRP on the rims (what insurance should give you), you could most likely find some track rims floating around from someone who upgraded.

The dealership doesn't install wheel locks at from the lot for you?

I've talked to mine just before I was gonna go out and buy some, and he said they are standard.

One of the dealerships here had the 17" rims stolen from a Spec-V while it was on their lot before it was PDI'ed... I guess that's why they install them regardless on PDI.

My dealer doesn't include locking lugs as standard.

They have, however, been great to me since the day I picked the car up. I think they just like the color of the car, but it could be my magnificent checkbook!!

Sorry to hear that Vagentleman. The next time we have a Z meet I hope to find some sweet wheels on your nice ride. Any thoughts yet or are you going with the standard wheels?

Damn, VAGentleman, I am really sorry to hear that. I guess my very first Z purchase will be locking lug nuts. BTW, if you don't mind me asking, I was wondering if you would mind telling us where your car was when the wheel was stolen. For my sake, I hope it wasn't in your work parking lot which is about 100 yards from where I park my Z during work.

Where..directly in front of my townhouse..I'm a middle unit (police said it makes sense...dogs are inside..usually..like in warmer weather..the dogs bark at ANYthing..

Damage...well..havent heard from the insurance adjuster yet..the rotors look fine and the only damage I can imagine is under the rocker panels where they slid bricks under.

I will let y'all know more when I know it!
