Bling, Dub, Ghetto, Show are nothing close to poser. They dont even mean the same thing. So basically dont mean poser, unless you are tryin to diss some people on this forum, which i dont think you intentionally meant to do.

 

No i dont mean to intentional diss anyone. What word would you use. Yes poser can be negative but that is what 20's are to me. They are an item that looks like its for performance but actually is not. It shows sports car when it is really just for looks. Plus i did say i like the looks of those cars but they are really just good for looks and thats it. Dont add performance. It cracks me up that everyone on here shuns big wings and other ricer mods yet something that fits into that category of being all show no go yet people love it.

 

I think it all comes down to there is racing and show. I doubt many people would take their 20's to the track because it hurts performance a bit (unsprung weight isnt that detrimental to it all if you are pushing 400 hp like some on here are), and it costs to much to replace 20's. So I dont think you can say they dont care about performance and are all show. 95% of people who own a sprts car probably do not track them. So that said with your definition of poser says there are a lot of posers running the streets.

 

Actually there is a factory Porsche like $500,000+ that has 20's in the rear but I agree 20's are lame.

 

Actually when going +33 front and +34rear with 9-20 and 10-20 rear(245/30 and 285/30) i dont think that you rape your handling and generaly your performance.

 

In answer to the question "Why 20's", the answer is looks.

 

Its the weight. Granted there are forged 20's but even those are not light. Non forged 20's weigh up to 50lbs per wheel! Most of the ones on here arent forged and weigh around 30-40 lbs. Thats a ton of added unsprung weight then plus added eight from wider tires. I forget the ratio but adding 1lb of unsprung weight is like adding 5 sprung weight punds so adding say conservativly 10lbs per wheel is like adding 200 lbs total to your car! It may even be more.

 

hehehe...keep your 17" and let us (those that have 20" worry about adding lbs to the car or not)

Ok, all sarcasm aside, the minor performance hit that my wheels give me while on the street is not even noticeable. It is not like I am drag racing from every stoplight and need the extra 1/10th of a second, or so, that I am missing. I think that it looks much better with a bigger wheel. Now granted, some are way over the topfor my taste, but I am not going to hate on somebody's decision to do whatever they want to do to THEIR car. If I were to track the car, I would change the wheels for some lightweight 17's or 18's.

Next thing you know, we'll be debating "Why Roadsters" since they are heavier than the Coupes, structurally less rigid, & essentially doesn't serve any performance gains but that doesn't mean I'll call them "Posers". Different people have different tastes & different reasons why they buy the car they have. So to answer your question as to "why"....it's because that's what THEY like.

I had a customer come to my shop and see my Z and didn't like my Lambo Doors and then proceeded to ask me how much to Suicide Door his Z. Now's that's f'n Ridiculous however although I cast judgement upon him I still don't understand why people do what they do... if you want to know why people put on 20's or what have you... go study psychology and you may get a better answer. Why 20's - I'll give you the same answer someone gave me for "why put headrest monitors in a Z" "Because you can"

BTW I run tucked 19's on my car. It's absolutely ridiculous... but damn if don't look tight and gets spinning when they see it. It's all Show and barely any go.

 

Why would anyone spend 8000$ to degrade the performance of a sportscar? To each his own, I won't spend a single cent to "look fast" or to "look bling" or to "look I have big *****". To me, fire stickers look just as rediculous... actually they are a much better deal.. they are way less expensive and degrade the looks of the car just the same without the dead whale penalty...

 

200lbs is a ton of weight. Ok lets put it this way its like losing 10rwhp, braking slower, handling worse. Thats what weight does. Weight is where its at. Look at the lotus.

 

oh yea, yo my 19s are performance! they weigh less then my stocks! HA! So if my volk 19s weigh less, i bet volk 20s weigh bout the same, give or take some. So YEaH!

 

Yep. My forged 20's weigh the same as my OEM 18's .

 

rotational equivalent of mass is moment of inertia. Moment of inertia increases exponentially as radius increases.

Your forged 20s are the equiavalent of 6lbs per wheel heavier than the stock 18"... which is borderline insane heavy.
