Default 18 and 19" question.

my z is the only car i have. and i would like to get some rims.
actually i already know what i want.
but what's the wear difference between 18's and 19's?
i'm pretty sure 19's will wear faster and have much rougher ride. am i right?
should i get 18's or 19's?
thankx

I think 19's might actually wear less because the sidewalls are stiffer and less tread block squirm? They might feather quicker though for the same reason. And the thinner profile tires would dissapate heat quicker?

I certainly wouldn't let tire life be the reason you chose one size over the other, because it's such a small difference if any, that you would never notice.

Yes the ride would be a little rougher.

I would definitely go with 19". You will regret it later if you buy 18"s(At least I did).

I use to have 18" SSR GT3 and after about a year, I end up switching to 19" Volk SF Challenge.

If you would have gotten in 19" in first place, I would have changed the wheels and saved some money.

I also had same concern as you but after I put 19" on, I had no concerns because it rides about the same.

As for tire wear, it really depends on what tires you get.

I have Toyo T1-S and they are great.

Just my thought

why did you regret getting 18"? did you not like how it looked? or was it a performance issue?

It was both. First of all, when I first got the Z, there wasn't that many Z's around. As time went by and after looking at few Z's with 19's, my wheels look more like HOT ROD with those BULKY (little exaggeration) tires. I am not say they look horrible but I prefer the look of 19" wheels vs 18" wheels.

Also, I initially went with 18" because I had the same concern as "xchriz012x",
Ride Quality. But after driving few other Z's with 19's, I realized it was not so bad. The ride was almost same as the 18's except that it had little more harsh ride but by than it had been almost 6 months since I had purchased 18's.

You also had to take into consideration that when I first got the 18's, I had 2003 Z. That was before I had the 2004.5 Roadster and I am sure you are aware that 2003 Z's are very bouncy and harsh ride vs 2004.5 Z's. I had both 2003 Z Coupe & 2004.5 Z Roadster AT THE SAME TIME for almost 2 month. I was in litigation with Nissan. Since I had both car's, I use to switch cars often.

The ride between the 2 car's were day & night. I really did not realize that there was a big difference until one day I drove 2003 & 2004.5 back to back few times.

With 2004.5 Roadster you have less bounce and ride is smoother so I figuered that even with 19's, I would have better/smoother ride on my Roadster than my 2003 Z with 18's and that when I decided to get 19's.

I hope I answered your question.

Here are some pic's with 19's

I recomend SF Challenge or GT-AV. Those look nice.

I am a fan of 5 spoke wheels.
