Ok, this may be moronic, but here we go.
Why does it matter if you have a 10" wide wheel or an 8" wide wheel if your running the same series tire?
Everyone agrees, I can run a 275 on an 8" wide rim in the rear. So how would that look any different then a 9" or 10" wide rim? WOuldnt it actually be LIGHTER yet have the same patch on the road?
Just wondering.

You're kidding right. Putting a 275 on a 8 inch wheel would be like me putting my size 12 Nikes on my 15 month old daughter. Your problem here is sidewall....It runeth over. If you look at recommedations on tire wheel applications 275 would never be placed on a 8 inch wheel. Just not wide enough. When you decide to take a corner hard be prepared to meet the gardrail as your tire is ripped off the wheel.

Didnt answer the question, you just made fun of me instead.
Lets try this again. I know 100% you can run it on a 9" wheel. Regardless, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between running it on a 9" wide rim and a 10" wide rim. People do both. If it doesnt matter then id think the 9" wide rim would be lighter, and cheaper for that matter.
PS- I know plenty of people running 275s on 8".

I misread your first post so here I am editing my response. The post from Daytona below mine is accurate.
Another thing though would be that a 275 on a 8" wide rim would not necessarily have as flat of a tread surface and would not likely give you quite as big a contact patch as on a 10" rim.

Well, a 275 stretched over a 10" rim looks nice. The weight difference between a 9" and a 10" is quite negligible. I believe the issue with a 8" and a 275 is sidewall flex, which would retard handling responsiveness somewhat. However, if weight is your issue, I would suggest not going with 3-piece Axis sevens, but instead opting for Volk CE28Ns or SSR Competitions.

No weight is not the issue completely. I was just giving for instances. I would LOVE to have a 10" wide rear, but they claim they conly have 8" wide on the 19's. Sounds like a bunch of hooey if you ask me.
Sidwall flex does make sense. But maybe negligable. I dunno.

This link explains the relationship of tire width to wheel width and the resulting effects on ride and handling.

for every 1/2" of wheel width change you will either gain or lose .2" of contact area .... and by going excessively wide for a particular wheel width (275 on an 8" wheel for example) you will get more sidewall deflection and roll which will inturn decrease the tires ability causing less handling performance. It will also effect the tires load capacity in a negative way

What would you recommend as the maximum width for the Rays wheels on the Track model (8.0X18F, 8.5X18R), keeping in mind the speedo error and currently available tires?

SO this is completely out of the question huh? Then what tire can I run on this 19x8?
LUKE- do axis mod come in 19x9 or bigger? Ive asked god knows how many people and not even AXIS will answer me. I find this quite funny.
They also wont tell me the offset. How does anyone expect to sell a wheel if they cant get me that simple info.
