Relocate battery to rear?
I removed my spare and tools, so was thinking it's be ideal to relocate the battery to the rear of the car, right? Anyone done this? What would be the best location and how difficult would this be to do?
Uh... no.
The whole point is to remove some un-needed weight from the car, but with the extra space back there, figured it would be better to move some weight from the front to the back to take some weight off the nose and put it on the rear wheels for better traction/balance. don't know if it's really enough to make any kind of difference to make the project worth the effort, hense my request for thoughts on the idea and wondering if anyone else has done this.
I've seen it brought up a couple of times, but never discussed in depth (both the effects on handling of removing the spare/tools and the idea of relocating the battery).
Maybe easier just to get a light weight battery up front? Any recommendations?

Yes, but balance is upset slightly when you remove the spare and tools. Gas tank is pretty well centered in the car, so not a big issue there. I could tell I had a little less grip in the rear when I took out my spare and tools, so that's why I thought it would be nice to relocate the battery to the back. Prob. not worth it, though. Have the Nismo suspension now and grip is much improved, so I don't think I'll mess with anything.
I've thought about this too...especially with the Spare and tools gone....
Those race cars have gigantic wings in the back to balance the rear-end out. Most of us don't so I wonder how I could transfer some front weight to the back.
You'd need some sort of distributor, and a battery case to house the battery so it doesn't leak any fumes into the car. After it's all said and done, the lightweight aftermarket battery would probably be the better alternative.
Still doesn't settle the deleted spare tire and tools.

I did it on my '90 Mustang LX Coupe. I can say that it made a HUGE difference on my stang since that particular car was notrious for being nose heavy. Also, I had a Paxton SC, so it was almost necessary to put the weight of the battery to the back. After the mod, the turn-in was so much better and the steering became lighter.
I agree that the Z has neer perfect balance, so unless you are thinking about putting a turbo or a SC, I'd leave the battery where it is.
If your set on putting the battery in the back, make sure you use the biggest guage wire that you can find (1 guage).
