Default Keep bending my wheels! :(

Does anyone else have a problem with running a 35 tall tire on a 19 inch wheel? This is the 3rd time that I hit a pothole and bent a wheel. I have Volk SF-Challenges and I was wondering if can switch to a taller tire. Perhaps a 45? Thanks

You have to check the inside of your rims. I have a couple bends.

+1 My wheels bent on the inside as well. Get a tire with stronger sidewalls might help. BFG sidewalls are kind of weak.

Well I bent the wheel on the outside. For the third time now! I run GoodYear Eagle F1s are those known for weak sidewalls? Does anyone run a 45 tall tire on the 19s without rubbing?

Just to let you guys know, the tallest sidewall they make for cars in 19s is 40mm. But you can get 45mm side wall on 18s though.

I am not sure about that. TireRack has Pirelli Rossos in 19/45/245 and 19/45/275. The question is would they fit and really how much more cushioning would i get with those tires.

=\ Now you are making me worry.

If I'm not losing pressure, then I probably don't have a bend though, right? ....

Damn what type of potholes do you drive through?

Supposedly the SF dish is forged?

The pothole was not huge by any means. I was doing some spirited driving on some backroads at 3 in the morning and hit this hole in the middle of the road. The pothole was maybe half an inch deep. I felt a pretty strong hit, but nothing terrible. Came out, felt around the rim and it was bent. I thought that the Volks were supposed to be real tough because they are forged. Guess not.

Better a "bend" than crack and shattering then having the car end in a ditch.

Forged wheels are not indestructable, they just hold up alot better than the OTHER wheel-making process.

I also have SF's with 35 series tires...no problems.

This is a sore subject that I'm gonna have to come to terms with....I think Ohio would get AT LEAST the bronze medal for sh!tty roads, and as much as I'd like to run 19's and 35's when I upgrade, I'll have to settle for 18's and 40's. Wish I could afford to live in Hawaii.....

what width are ur running?? 255? 275?
if your doing the "stretch" tire look, that could possibly be a factor with your problem. The more meat you have on the ground w/ that 35% sidewall the better. The tire then takes the punishment and not your rims

35/255/19 is the size of the tire. Maybe I am just unlucky and the potholes gravitate towards my Z.

My only rim damage was when I hit a 6+ inch deep pothole at around 40mph. 19" 5zigen hyper 5zr with Toyo t1's. 35 sidewall. I only bent the lip though. Have you guys actually made the wheel not a circle anymore? (slightly)
