Default Help! New 06 with Rays Rims messed up rims?

Just got my 06 Grand Touring 6MT three weeks ago have 850miles on the car and went to wash last night.. (car soap and water only..) washed off all the breakdust with a wash mit and soap and noticed the finish seemed messed up.
Went to the dealership today and service manager has to see monday.

What do you think? (click the pics to get full size..)

Default Your rims have aids

First find out what the dealership can do for you. New rims would be sweet, and you can sell those hot little numbers on the board to a fellow member. (wink wink )

Try wheel wax first not to hurt the finish
rub with a fair amount of pressure.
If that doesn't work find out what the finish is and try a polish, BUT PLEASE DO A TEST SPOT YOU DON"T WANT SCRATCHES!!! on the finish.

Not as bad as that one... but yes, at least three of them have it..

The car was washed at the dealership when I picked it up, so I don't know if they did something..

under close examination it appears to be UNDER the finish. It actually looks like something was on it when the wheels were spinning going outward... very strange!

Does anyone know if these RAYS RIMS are clear coated?

thanks!

It could be the detergent used at the car wash. Good luck with the dealer.

Sonus Car Wash Soap? I hand washed it myself yesterday. The only other carwashing was at the dealers at delivery...

here is a closer view

I would try some car polish. Not wax..... polish. If polish won't remove it then it is under the clear coat.

Try a mild clear coat safe polish like Kit Scratch Out ($1.99 at Wal-mart or Autozone). If that doesn't do it, then as stated above, it's under the clear coat and a flaw in the manufacturing at which point you should get new wheels under warranty. Don't let the dealer BS you.

The exact same thing happened to me when I bought my 04 Z from Lokey Nissan. The dirt doesn't get off..it was as if the clearcoat was peeling off and it only got worse. I was left clueless. I have owned numerous cars and this has never happened to me before on any of them. I am convinced the dealership uses something that initially harms the rims...possible wax or something? It really sucks.

My 06 Z does not have this problem whatsoever..neither did my 04 inifiniti G35 coupe previously

It looks to me like they used some spray on cleaner to take off the brake dust or dirt at the dealership. If you do not rinse this stuff off within 30 seconds it will damage the wheel as such. You can not leave this stuff on for any time. I never use the stuff. However, I have seen my buddy screw up his rims more than once forgetting to rinse it off until the rest of his car was washed.

yea!

I went to the dealership this morning and they are aware of the problem. The service manager is ALREADY working with his regional Nissan rep to get a solution. They are pretty sure it is a flaw in the manufacturing process. ( if you feel and look at it, it looks like its UNDER any clear coating..)

They wrote up this issue in the computer and will call me when they have more info..

what a relief!

thanks!

It appears that someone sprayed the wheels with an acidic cleaner such as Fantastic. Considreing that you have only 850 miles, it sure looks like a manufacturing defect to me.

If Nissan is going to take care of the problem, great.

If not, I would probably get them sanded/prepped and re-powdercoated to a slightly different color to match your taste.

That is a good idea.. wonder if they would rather pay to have that done than replace them..

I would like to make them gun-powder gray or black..

Where can I get that done??

thanks
