Default 19" rims. Drag Radials - Sticky Tires ?

Hi,

I have 19" rims (x 9.5) on my Z. Can't go any smaller because of my BBK.

What would be the best tiires for traction in dry weather (drag racing) ?

Thanks

Danny

I couldnt find a drag radial for 19's so i had to use my old stock 18's for drags.

you should be able to use a 18" rim. Not just any but ones that stick the spoke out off of the hub. Look at the Kazera's. I run 19's front and Kazeras in the rear. I have a front BBK but I bought the 18's to clear the rear when I decide to upgrade.

You run 18's in the rear and 19's in front? I had to ask, the way you phrased it, it sounds that way.

Yes, thats what i do, the rim doesn't matter that much in the 1/4 mile you just want something that is about the same size as the front.

I'd rather not buy other rims too, just tires. I also prefer to run my car "Street", that is, without any modifications from when I drive it daily.

Anyone have experience on the drag strip with the Pirelli's? Or other tires that are great for drag ?

Thanks

Danny

I don't know of any 19" tires that I would run on the drag strip. If you do, welcome to SPIN city!

<grin> Wierd, never heard it done that way. I'm running the Grand touring/track Rays from the '06 on mine, and think I need a better tire setup traction wise and ride wise.

What would you guys recommend running on 18x9.5 fronts and 19x10.5 rears?

On them now, that come stock, are 245/40WR18 (front), 265/35WR19 (rear) Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires.

Appreciate the suggestions. Toyo's, Nito's, Yoko's all are fine, just size suggestions.

BTW I love these wheels, just notice that the ride is a lot different from the wheels I had on that came stock with the touring from '04. The 10.5 on the rears does seem to give me a bit more traction.

Drag racing is a little different, I don't run that setup all the time only at the track.

I have RE050A's out back currently cuz my original set of ps2's wore out in the back while the fronts were still good. Im pretty impressed with that tire. Im using a 285/35/19 on a 9.5" rim. If you didn't want an 18" out back so you could put a DR on it, then maybe trying to fit a larger softer tire would work. But it will be expensive.

Aye, I'm a little inexperienced with just what would constitute the larger softer tire for the rear 19x10.5's. Would you look at the treadwear rating and figure that in? Or? The front's don't bother me at all, it's all about the slip and breaking in the rear from a stop. I am thinking about replacing the VSLD with an ATS Carbon dif, or even going with the Quaife (I've hear different opinions on a peg leg though) and going with an upgraded torque converter at the same time to get more HP and torque to the wheels. Have 5AT so that is my current upgrade thought's. With my current set up, stillen stage 4 SC and other performance upgrades, I just break traction everytime from a stop.

So, without getting even more longwinded, your opinions I value, as you seem to track a lot, I would think you know your stuff about streeting too. Not sure which mods the tires, the converter, and upgraded LSD would matter. Have upgraded sways, engine dampener as well.

Thanks again, I think we're staying on topic here, wasn't trying to hijack as we are all talking about getting the most traction here

Very pleased with Goodyear and 60-foot times.

Make sure you drop your tire pressure around 20-25 depending on condition of the track. With the Toyo T1-S when I was NA, I was getting 1.9 60ft's. So, with a Goodyear you should be able to get a low 1.9 or 1.8 even.

I'd rather not buy another set of rims. So what's my best choice?

Stay with my Proxes T1S ot get Goodyear Eagle F1? Any others? How about the Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico? Or won't it make much difference?

Thanks

Danny

It seems that everyone runs 1.8X and 1.9X second 60-foot times. Yet no one except me has posted time slips. Hmmmm...

Most people tend to hold on to their best time slips. 1.9 or 1.8 wouldn't constitute my best so i don't have those time slips.
