Default So I purchased new VOLK GT-7's and TOYO tires........Question

I have on order VOLK GT-7's in Diamond Black 19x9.5/ 19x10.5 and TOYO tires which come mount and balanced on the tire. My question is what about the tire sensors? Should I hold off on the mounting and balancing until I get them in and can take off the sensors in my factory 18 inch rims (if my 2003 touring has sensors) and put them on the new rims? What do you think?

From what I am told, the tire sensor will not work on any other set of rims than the stocks, unless they are the same specs.

It's not that they won't work on other wheels because they will, it's just a Pain In The @$$ to get them to work. There are basically two options....

Option 1 - Is to drill a hole in the proper place and mount the Sensor Valve Stem in that location but don't use it to put air in the tire you keep the one that came on the wheels and use that one. This is what F1 Motorsports does for most of their Volks if you want the TPS on aftermarket rims.

Option 2 - which is the more popular version is to place the sensors flat on the inside of the wheel and mount the tire over it. Otherwise known as "Banding" b/c you use a metal band to secure the sensors to the rims. Do a search fro "banding" or something like that and a lot will show up.

So these are the only options available to aftermarket rims to keep the TPS and the main reason most don't keep the TPS is just because it is a hassel to deal with. (Atleast that's why I'm not doing it on my SF Challenges)

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT!

the sensors work on all 1 piece rims that uses a straight valve stem. As i'm told all multi-piece rims uses an L-shaped valve stem, making the TPS incompatable with mutli-piece rims (you can't swap valve stems).

Under the multi-piece scenario, i believe your options are as listed by xtrememan, or go without the TPS.
