Question on tire and rim size match

Will a 235/40/18 tire fit a 8.5 x 18 rim ok?

Nissan uses a 245 mm tire on a 8.5 inch wheel. I can see increasing the width 10mm to 255, but not decreasing it to 235.

Look at the tire manufacturers websites. They all give max/min rim widths for a given tire size.
