Default HRE Wheels Banned from VPR and IMSA events

probably old news but....

http://forums.audiworld.com/lrqc/msgs/41036.phtml

Interesting tid-bit. Talking to IMSA and Viper Racing League sterwards. found HRE's are banned ...

in both series due to too many failures.

NINE, yes NINE failures in one race weekend Vipers.

Apparently the PCA is on their way to banning HRE's as well.

The racers have always called them "Fools Fashion" and i thought that was a little rough until I started seeing them fail at track events and how easily they bend and corrode.

Then, after Leslie had problems with hers corroding and I spoke with one of the owners, I realized quickly they were WAY out of reality as to strength and design.

Wasn't really surprised that they were banned (was at the meeting), but was surprised at ALL the problems reported.

Unreal for such an expensive wheel.

Apparently tolerances are sooooo poor that the tires often rotate on the wheels themselves as the rims are often slightly too small.

Has ANYONE ever seen any event rules that say HRE wheels are banned? By the way, these Rumors have always cited the same Audi thread.

Middle of 2005, yes old article and already talked about here last year.

Yet doesn't seem like anyone can provide proof that Manufacturers are banned.

Well......I spun my OEM Bridgestones on my OEM 17" Nissan rims many times at DE's too. So, OEM wheels need to be banned from tracking?

Here is a pic I took a few years ago. The yellow grease mark HAD been aligned with the valve stem earlier in the day........

Ummmmm, and what do you base that statement on? Would you please point me to the threads that confirms that MOST people buy aftermarket rims for this reason. I've seen many reasons for buying different rims.....looks....wider....lighter....better offsets...etc.......but I must have missed the spinning tire on rim reason.

The claims against HRE wheel failures on the track are false, and were unfortunately started as a rumor. If you read the links posted, you will ultimately find out that the failure was a Kinesis wheel, and measures were taken to remedy the problem. HRE wheels are not banned in any racing series.

if you read on in those forums you will notice that the water retention issue in the rain is a characteristic of all reverse drop center wheels. the wheels with the flat lip (as opposed to the stepped lip) have the drop center in the rear where water can build up. this happens to hre, iforged, dpe, kinesis, etc.

Get it right... if you research this further, they weren't even HRE's... some other wheels that were anodized and stripped 3 time prior to the "incident"..... Story is B@llS!#t!!!! been through this way too many times...
