Default Basic Tire Question

I have a 2004 350Z and here in Asia, I cannot get 235/50/R17 tires to replace the current ones that are on the rear (225/50/R17 on the front).

Silly question but complete amateur when it comes to car bits and pieces (although I can drive one - smile): If I change the wheel size to 18" from 17", what would be the best suggestions for changing tires to suit the new wheel sizes and can this all be done without further modifications required to the car?

If I cannot get 235/50/R17's - any other suggestions as to what I should/could do would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Someone just told me minutes after my post, that I can put 245/40/R18 on the front and 275/40/R18 on the rear - without having to change anything other than to buy 18" Wheels - can anyone please confirm this and this will resolve the question for me i feel.

Many thanks from a non-technical guy.

yeah, those tires sizes can work...just make sure you get the right wheel size and offset.

How'd you get a 350Z in Shanghai - I was there last year and never spotted one...

Thanks First, next question if I may. I assume standard 18" wheels will fit these tires?

How'd you get a 350Z in Shanghai - I was there last year and never spotted one...

I imported one from Canada mid last year prior to all the new rules/regs coming in, pretty simple but very high import tax. Problem is, zero spares, zero anything really and the majority of tires here are fakes (seriously), so would rather get the 'real deal' although you never know what is real here - last month, Shanghai Car Company called Geely had to reimburse Buick for copying the Buick Sail - and I mean copying frrom start to finish! So obviously, need as much help as I can get with my tire question (smile).

Only 3 350z's in the whole of China: one in Guangzhou (was written off by some crazy Chinese driver and is now scrapped (or copied - smile), one in Beijing still going well and mine in Shanghai - attracts huge attention because i stripped all Nissan logo's and replaced with 'Z''s - so Chinese people have no idea what it is, call it the Zorro car!!!

Awesome!!!

Why not import a Quality tire from the US or Canada... If I'm not mistaken, 1010tires.com out of Canada will ship anywhere.. Since Canada and China have a good relationship like that, it might be the way to go. Just buy in Bulk.

Many thanks for this idea, I have emailed them for a quote, although if they cost quite a bit, peace-of-mind knowing that they are genuine will be worth it!

Please could you remind me of the correct offset for these two tyre sizes if you have the time.

Many thanks again, much appreciate the help.

Best Regards

Adrian

Damn, must feel like you're driving a ferrari or an even more rare exotic!

Good luck with buying wheels! No hard feelings, but Asian countries should stop copying so much as it gets way too confusing!

Won't ordering wheels and tires be much easier from Japan? You could get Ray's Engineering wheels and Toyo tires there.

Offset is only a problem if you are buying new wheels (Stock offset is +30mm front, +33mm Rear). You should have NO Problem getting stock replacements from 1010Tires.
