Why Go Staggered?
From what I have read and experienced it seems that unless your FI, rear tire size of beyond 275 offers no real difference besides added weight and the complication of clearance issues ( not to mension non-nuetral handling). In addition I have read that the best way to eliminate any under/over steer is to have the fronts far closer in width than most people are running. It seems that most people go 245/275, 255/285, or even 255/295. Some of the articles I have read on tuners who add wheels/tires to the Z are running 265/275, 245 all around, or 245/265. Just was wondering if there is a reason why so many people are doing such large staggers between the fronts and backs, and why such large rears are so popular (besides looking more aggressive).

I have 255/275 for my track wheels and they work really well! For performance, ppl go with:
Track: 255/275 (default is better to have understeer than oversteer at high speeds)
AutoX: 275/275 (a little more front grip)

AutoX: 275/275 (a little more front grip)

You can also maintain the same front and rear wheel width ratio and adjust the tire pressures for an easier, less expensive way of adjusting the handling dynamics of your vehicle.
You might be pleasantly surprised to see how much this can change the way the car handles!

The exhaust forum has turned into a What sounds the most exotic forum, and this forum is about looks.
If you want to talk about wheels, tires and performance, visit the racing forum. Its the last sanctuary for those who do not have bling on the brain.

What will work best depends on what the owner is doing with the vehicle. Stuffing the widest tire you can at all 4 corner's is going to work best for those of us that experience max cornering at lower speeds, like around town or on a autocross course. With dedicated track courses where higher speeds are going to be encountered, weight transfer issue's that lower speeds tend to not encounter come into play and that's when a staggered setup will pay dividends. Though no matter what you choose, both require that normal tuning element's much be worked out properly to ensure real success.
