HRE Wheels
I saw a set of HRE wheels I really liked, but the list price is $1650!!! Please someone tell me that is for the whole set, because if that is the price for a single rim that is INSANE!!!
I agree their a nice wheels but they arn't nearly that nice even for $1000 a wheel, WWAAAAYYYYY to much $$$$. I understand that they are custom made to fit your car but thats the problem, low volume = high price. Hey, there are way to many quality great looking rims for the Z out there to blow your wad on these just to say you have HRE's. Save your cash buy a set of quality rims that look just as good and spend the difference on some go fast goodies.
Go ahead and flame away all you HRE worshiper's I know their good but you know their not that good.

Hmmmm, High quality, custom fit, low volume = high price. Sounds like a good recipe for me. The low volume results in a unique and rare look, worth the money. Oh yeah, you forgot excellent customer service, how much is that worth?
I understand what your saying but for some, quality and customer service is worth the extra $$$$. For some, money is not an issue.

Basically what I'm trying to say is you've got your reasons, others have other reasons. Trying to justify not buying them by saying you can get the same for less is not one of them. Sure you can save money and get a great wheel, but it's not an HRE
. With that being said, I wish I had the money for some HREs
, maybe one day
.
I got an enthusist model just so I could mod it the way I want it. To me, spending 5K for Track wheels that are too small for my taste and brembo brakes is too much considering I would take off the wheels and have to replace them anyways. I am not trying to convince anyone of my point of view or be critical of anyone elses choices. The point being, I got just what I wanted. I am getting my Z with HRE 445's and 285/265 tires which for me, looks great and is still under what I would have paid for a track model that is not what I wanted. If I want to go TT/SC later, I will as well as getting racing brakes. To put it simply, to each his own, otherwise we could not order even different colors.

I love those rims also.
Did you ever ask about the weight though?
Heavier than the stock touring 18" rims so I said
FORGET IT!
If you need speed you need to lighten up dude.

FYI, just went out back and weighed a beautiful new set of 18x8.5 + 18x10 charcoal 445Rs for a 350Z...
(ordered through Avalon- you know who you are!)
18x8.5 = 21.4 lbs. (high disk)
18x10 = 22.2 lbs. (medium disk)
It's difficult to quote exact weights for all of our wheels, as different "pad heights" (to allow for big brakes, etc.) and rim combinations can affect total weight.
Anybody know the weight of the OE track wheels?

With a bigger rim eg... 19" vs. 18" the rim weighs more but the tire weighs less, right? I wonder what the difference in the total mounted weight is between the stocks vs the HRE's in 18's and 19's.
It seems to me that we are talking about a total of +/- 10lbs.
It also seems to me that more people are concerned with a few extra pounds on their rims and tires than they are with the few extra pounds on their gut and butt.
Just an observation........
So get whatever rims you like and stop eating doughnuts.

I weighed a set of 18x9 and 18x10 HRE 445Rs the other day, I came up with:
18x9 22.6 lbs (high disk, 2.0" lip)
18x10 23.2 lbs. (medium disk, 3.0" lip)
These will accommodate any big brake set-up currently on the market for the 350Z.
Also, keep in mind the OE Run-Flat tires (If yours is so equipped) are incredibly heavy- switching to a conventional radial will by itself save 1-2 lbs. per wheel.
I'll get some weights on a few 19" sets soon- weights can vary a bit by wheel width, bolt pattern, style, pad (disk) height, etc.
Regards,
Bob

RUN-FLATS??????
All new Corvettes have run flat tires, since there is no spare in the car.
They are heavy because of the extra material in the sidewall. And, they ride like bricks..... they do not absorb any road bumps.
