I have read plenty of the threads on this but don't actually understand what fixed the tire feathering issues. I am not trying to reopen this entire issue, just trying to understand if the problem was actually one that could be fixed by the dealer. Suspension?.....Alignment?......Shocks?....New Tires?....Thanks.

 

camber and toe (alignment) then tires I had to have my front end aligned 2 times to get it right.

My service advisor told me they simply adjusted the toe and used the newer potenzas with a redesigned tread. The problem has not come back.

 

I have had my 03 "fixed" twice by the dealer and the feathering is still occuring. I have 40K on the car and I am now wearing out the 3rd set of tires. I have the "new" potenzas on my car, and they have not helped. The dealer will no longer fix the problem or replace the tires without charging me. I have been speaking with Nissan NA about this for months, and they refuse to give me any compensation for the cost of all the tires I will need for this car. I am filing a lawsuit under the Lemon Law in my state. I do not want to pay $500 for tires every 10K miles.

 

Heel/Toe Feathering has been around since performance directional tires were introduced back in 1993. A function of directionality and not rotating and flipping tires on wheels every 90 days.

Every directional tire on every car make and model I see has feathering to varying degrees: BMW, MB, Lexus, Nissan, Corvette, Honda..........just goes with directional tires.

 

Tires are a wear part. You expect them to warranty tires after 40k miles? What a crock of ****.

Have you tried an actual alignment? If so did the car stay aligned?

I contacted the Infinity dealer today in regards to the tires on my G35 coope. The tires are so loud I can hardy hear the radio. They acted like they know nothing about the tire problems. when my witfe took the car ther a few months ago they gacve her some **** about performance tires wear out fast and they would be glad to replace them for $1700.00. Anyone have the TSB or someting that I can reference.

 

I never heard the G35's having the feathering problem...thought it was strictly a 03 - 04 Z problem

 

If it's a defect.... why not? To put it another way, if your window motor died @ 10K, then again @ 20K, and again @ 30K (all fixed under warranty), wouldn't you be a bit irritated if it died *again* @ 40K and you had to pay $500 to replace it?

 

after the fix, I haven't had feathering issues

but I also ditched the craptastic RE040

 

This topic has been talked about endlessly on this board and if you want a full review then clear the rest of your weeks schedule and get to reading.

If you would like my brief synopsis...here it is. Seems the only real full fix is to go aftermarket suspension, adjust camber and go to different tires. the tire feathering problem seems to rooted somewhere between the suspension on the Z and the crappy OEM potenzas, great for the track but not practical. Also you cannot ignore the fact that the tires cannot be easily rotated, you have to dismount, flip then re-mount on the other side.

Now with that said, do I think the feathering is Nissan's fault? Hold your breath...NO!!!! Now I think in the beginning it was a little out of control, I burned my first set of tires up in under 10k before anyone really knew about this. Nissan did their part, stepped up, recognized the situation and gave me new tires along with a pseudo solution to the problem that will help me get the expected life out of my tires. As long as I take an additional measure by rotating.

I think too many of us Z owners have too high of expectations for how much we get out of our tires. We will never average above 30k on a set. You may be saying to yourself, well...hell I dont even get fifteen, well hear me out. A daily road car gets what..maybe 45-55k miles out of a set of tires, and how does that happen...with regular rotation. If you dont rotate, any car wont get half the tire life. So how can we get a full 25-30k out of ours, by rotating as I stated earlier. I get mine rotated twice a year, costs 25-30 bucks. To date I have 25k on my Falkens and other than them being 19's I am bone stock everywhere else.

basically what i am saying is that we have to sacrifice something to have such a superb handling car at such an affordable price.

Well infinity has agreed to give me w new set of front tires but want me to pay for the alignment. I guess I can not complain but it seems funny they would give me new tires but not align the car.
