Default Toyo RA-1 vs T1-R

I currently run the Toyo T1-R tires and am happy but need wider ones in the rear due to the power I put down (475whp)

I want to stay with my current wheel style and the biggest widest they come at are 18X10
If I get the T1R for this wheel the widest I can go is 285/35/18
If I get the RA-1's I can go 305/35/18 and since these are competion tires I'm leaning towards those.

Questions:
will there be a problem if I go T1R in the front and RA-1 in the rear?
How are the RA-1's anyone running them and are you happy with them?

I've never seen someone run a RA1 in the rear and a T1R in the front and I've never driven a car with two totally different style tires front and rear so i can't comment on that.

However I have driven on plenty of T1R's and I currently daily drive on RA1's. There is no comparison between the two in terms of dry handling. The RA1's are R compound tires that plenty of people track with. On the street they are great. I am coming from S-03's for my last 2 sets of tires and the RA1's grip alot more. However I have changed my allignment a good amount. For the RA1's to grip really well you need at least -2 deg. of camber. With the RA1's i don't have traction issues anymore, with regular tires I would get loose in low gears (460whp, awd )

Downsides are the cost and tread life. The T1R's will last a little over twice as long as the RA1's...

thanks for the info
I did some more reading on the RA-1's as well and since my camber is set more towards drag racing (I run slicks at the track) I probably wouldn't feel the advantage.

I'm going to stick to the T1-R's all around

I've run the RA-1s before and they are a fantastic tire. There is no comparison between them and the T1R.

did you run them on all 4 wheels or mixed?

Also I read that they are only good if you heat them up, I want a realible tire for everyday use as well and don't want to have to do a burnout every time I drive to work

You definitely don't want to mix tires like that. Mixing street tires is bad enough, but using street tires AND race tires is definitely a no no.

We've also seen at least 5000 miles or more using the RA-1s as street tires. Gotta remember that street tires and race tires are not meant to last the same amount of time.

The big drawback to the RA-1 would be on the freeway in the rain. Very spooky to run such a tire at speed over water.

That depends on how much tread is on the tire. If they are pretty new they will do very well in the rain, alot of people I know use these tires on rainy track days and do very well. If the tires are getting low on tread then yea, stay away from rain.
