Goodyear Eagle F1
I was just shopping around for tires and noticed the new Eagle F1's. I don't plan on getting new ones until my trash Potenza's are totally shredded but I figure you can never start shopping too early! Anyone know anything about them? I guess by the time I need a crew change there will be more info. Let me know what you guys know! Thanks!!!
I am a mechanic at Goodyear and i also deal with the tires. The new Eagle F1's are good tires and i would recomend them to anyone they have double a traction which is the highest you can get and the tread wear is farly low but what can u expect with a good traction tire. I would also recommend the new dunlop 9000 they are a nice looking tire and just as good as the F1's.
there are many different Eagle F1's .... which one are you referring to ...
F1 Supercar ... OE on a Z06 Vette ....
F1 GS ... rather dated and wears really fast
F1 GS D2 ... discontinued
F1 GS D3 ... pretty good tire ,does have some road noise issues
F1 GS CS .... DOT Race rubber
F1 Supercar ... OE on a Z06 Vette ....
F1 GS ... rather dated and wears really fast
F1 GS D2 ... discontinued
F1 GS D3 ... pretty good tire ,does have some road noise issues
F1 GS CS .... DOT Race rubber

How does the F1 GS D3 stack up against the SO3? It seems like the S03 is at the top of just about every discussion I've seen, but R & T just gave it high marks in it's last tire test.
Thanks-
David
the D3 is a very good performing tire but, it is in the Ultra Hogh Performance catagory while the S-03 is in the Maximum Perfromance catagory which is the next step up the ladder. Even if the D3 was the best in it's catagory it would'nt be a Maximum Performance tire .... the S-03 is a better performer

The point is, who has the best tires overall for the 350Z? It still sounds like the S03 offers the best performance in both wet and dry. While durability is always a question, the info I've seen also favors the S03.

However, I have to say that all this tire category stuff is somewhat confusing. After all, "maximum performance" is higher than "ultra high-performance"? Who ever came up with splitting hairs like that???

Maximum Performance:
These are the absolute best performing tires on the market. Great steering response and wet/dry traction (not
for use inthe snow!!!) which is at home on the track.
Ultra High Performance:
A step down form the Max tires but, still exceptional performance which fits most application for a street tire that can be driven very aggressivley.
Ultra High Performance All Season
Performance tires which are capable of going through the snow.

Your reply makes sense, but the confusion comes when industry sources do not adopt the same categorization as Tire Rack's.
Lets take the Goodyear F1 GS D3, since that is what this thread began with. Goodyear obviously classes this as a "maximum performance" tire in all their advertising. The latest R & T tire test confuses the issue further by comparing that tire with the grip from a race slick! Perhaps the problem is that the writer has never really ever been on full Goodyear Eagle (or other brand) race slicks in the first place! The grip (when hot and in the dry) is BEYOND any R-compound tire that I have ever tried.
So, I accept your categorization that the S03 is at home on the track and the F1 GS D3 is a step behind. Do you also feel that either tire would benefit from being shaved if track use is anticipated?
