Exclamation Nitto 555 Tire Pressures

These are the tires that came with my car: 225/45ZR18 (95W) on the front, and 265/35ZR18 (93W) on the rear.

The stock rear size is supposed to be 245/45ZR18 (100W), right? So I guess the previous owner had these put on. Great tires.

Anyway, I asked the Nissan dealer about them, but he didn't know.

I set all four tires at 35psi anyway as has been discussed elsewhere on these Forums.

Just found out from Nitto that due to the (93W) rear rating, I need to increase my rear tire pressures to 40psi. They said that 35psi was OK on the fronts.

Just thought I would pass this info along to you.

I have been keeping mine at 30F ~32R.

I will put some more air in them tonight.

OK . . . what are the tire sizes and weight ratings of your Nitto tires?

93 is a load index based on the potential weight over the axle. You can use a tire with a load index equal to or greater than that recommended by Nissan. The load index does not change the pressure required to support the potential weight over the axle. I recommend 35psi all around.

I have 245/40-18 front and 275/40-18 rear. I have no idea what the weight ratings are.

Right, David

The fronts are supposed to be 91W and the rears are supposed to be 96W.

The Nitto factory rep said that my rear tires were "not recommended" for my car, and suggested that "in the meanwhile" I increase their pressure from 35 to 40psi. This implies that adding extra air is not a panacea for getting the wrong tires in the first place.

But when I got the car, I didn't know any better. I am now sorting out all the little bugs and mistakes that the previous owner made.

Can you explain why a lower weight rating (91W) is used in the front where all the engine weight is?

Thanks, Joe

Carrying items in the back? Towing something? I am not sure.

Well, if you've been following this thread, you should have at least 35psi all around. That much we seem to agree on. This is the recommended pressure as found inside the console box no matter what brand of tire you are using (Nitto, Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc.)

What I am saying is that the Nitto factory rep told me to put another 5 psi in my rear tires. this is because the weight rating of my rear tires is not high enough. Mine are only 93W, not 96W or higher. Davidv says adding extra pressure is incorrect. I am still looking into this.

The stock tires from Nissan are 91W in front and 96W in the rear. Check to see what weight ratings are on your tires. In the meanwhile, I would put 35psi in all around.

All best,
Joe

The necessity of increasing my rear tire pressure due to the lower weight rating of my rear tires was just verified by a rep from Tirerack.com

So both Nitto and Tirerack agree on this.

When it's time to replace these tires, I'm going to use 245/45-18 (96W) UHP all-season tires front and rear. In the meanwhile, I will put 35psi in my Nitto 225/45-18 (91W) front tires and 40psi in my Nitto 265/45-18 (93W) rear tires as recommended by the experts.

All best,
Joe
