Default How long do you think it will take for this trend?

Hey guys not sure if any of you are F1 fans I am sure there are a number of you out there. Anyway at the last race in Turkey the Ferraris sported a newly legalized carbon disc over their rears wheels for areo dynamics. Just as a thought I wonder how long it will take (probably years or never) for this trend to hit the streets.

You'll think back to this post maybe years down the road when you are posting about which Volk carbon covers look best on you 560Z.

Hopefully it will not become a trend. However, someone will see the aerodynamic benefits of it and use it to shave .000000000001 off their times.

No no no...they'll pay exorbitant amounts of money and see the benefits at car shows for extra judging points cuz you know that such a bling 'performance' car will never see the inside of an off-camber turn at a track.

What about F1 has anything to do with our cars.

Just look at the tires, white lettering, fat round profile, looks like a golf cart.

This Z has white lettering on its tires.

Perhaps it is for advertising? Hmmm

True, but race tires have had white lettering since they figured out how to make white lettering on tires and it has not been popular in street cars since the 70s. I was just pointing out that trends in racing don't necessarily translate to trends on the street. Sometimes, that's a good thing.

Reminds me of those plastic disks that came out for bicycles back in the day.

It would probably kill lap time from overheated brakes...

on an f1 car, it's ok to put a disc on the wheel, because the car itself has numerous air vents built into its design to aid with brake cooling. A street car will not have this, so covering the wheel will not only be ugly, but detrimental to the brake system itself. I pray to god that nobody actually does this on a street car....
