Default Damn Volks

Okay fellas tell me, my volk SF 19" challanges bent ion the front rims from what I considered a bump, NOT POTHOLE, just a bump in the damn road. Tires were 245/35 and 235/35 Toyo T1S. Now I was able to sell those rims and I am buying new rims. Are those Ruff or Stern rims crappy or what. I don't wanna buy Volk again because it bent like anything else would of. Thoughts???

errr... what width size were you running on the front 19x9.5? Cause if so you should've got 255s. Its probably because you went for the stretched tire look that got your rim bent.

Fuuny you should ask that because I was going to bring this up also but I didn't because you know how it is, a lot of guys jump all over you bout crap. Anyway, I got my volks about 2 yrs ago and what most people were running was 19x8.5 fronts and 19x10.5 rear. Offset was low 20's for both. With that being the case I went with 245/35 and 275/35. My next set will have this, 245/40 and 285/35. That set up is almost similiar to the set up on the G35 with 19" and I am sure they aint bending there rims left and right. I may have to roll the fenders for this set up but who cars, I would rather protect the rim than worry bout rolling the fenders.
245/35 = 3.376" of rubber on the ground
245/40 = 3.858" of rubber on the ground
This puts .482"'s of rubber more which is almost half an inch. This will make a difference.

What I was getting at is my Volks bent and has anybody bent up some ruff or stern rims.
+1 for myself :-)

Expecting a rim to not bend at all during the lifetime that you own your car kinda ridiculous... You said it yourself that you had 2 years on the Volks. The problem wasn't with the Volks it was the roads you travel on. If Volks can bend on that bump you took, I'm sure anything will whether it be Ruff, Stern, Enkei, Works, whatever. If I come off as jumping on you I'm not, just stating that you shouldn't expect the impossible with rims.

Do you check your tire pressure often?

You are running a 35-series tire. Less sidewall means less resistance to impact than, say, a 45 series tire. It just common sense. 19-inch wheels look cool. Its the price that you pay for looks.

Sorry.

Yeah yeah yeah, you guys are not saying anything man, all that stuff is common sense. I am talking about the Volks being Forged compared to the Ruff and Stern rims being cast. Has anybody seen a big difference in strength? Please don't say forge are stronger than Cast because that is true however in the current design of the deep dish rim there is a whole different story. I am a Mechanical Engineer so I know a little bit about Forge and Castings.
+1 for paying for looks
+1 for tire pressure check
Other than that, I think that those other rims look good and if I bend one there easy to replace where as Volks are not. Anyway, thanks but if anybody has any quality, pros and cons for the Ruff and Stern rims thats all I really wanted to know.

I've heard of some Volk rims that have bent over uneven roads, but I would think any 19" rim driven over pot holes will have a good chance to get damaged. From what I've seen, Volks' forging process has proven to make their wheels some of the strongest out there. I can't imagine what a cast wheel in 19's would look like if you drove over that bump the same way you did with those Volks.

Dude..you live in Jersey. What you call bumps over there is like speed bumps in Cali. I've driven through Jersey and there are some roads out there that I would be scared to drive thru with an SUV.

Well NJ does suck when it comes to roads but I guess it doesn't really matter because I be purchasing another pair of Volks anyway but I guess I just have to deal with it.

NJ roads are bad, roads here in PA suck too. I was in Cinnaminson, NJ a few years back for some training for work......that place is like 90% women. Between those "jug handles" and not being allowed to pump your own gas, they really don't like it when you pump the gas yourself.

ok so it's not really 90%, but it seems like it!!

I can't see you purchasing 19-20" wheel and have it any stronger unless you're looking to pay more through HRE, Kinesis etc...

Even those high-dollar wheels will bend under the right condition.
However, it's better to bend than to crack/ shatter like some cheaper makes.

ruff and stern are crap, IMO, garbage brands; the Volk's are worth more than those lumps of metal

my front tires were pretty low on air the other, around 25 psi. hit a nice bump on the freeway at 75mph, i could feel and hear the rims taking the hit. no bend here and im running slightly stretched 245/35's on 9.5 rim in the front.
