Default Volks or Axis + audio system?

I need some opinions fellas.

I'm at about 26,000 miles on my Z and it's time to replace the tires. I was originally going to just buy some new tires for my stock rims but I figure I might as well take this opportunity to upgrade a little. I only have $3,500 to play with and I have been stumped for a couple of weeks now.

So, I need some opinions.

Should I get some Volks (SF Challenge, Progessive Spoke, LE37T) which would cost arout $3,500ish for the rims + tires. Or, should I get some Axis rims (Hiros, Matrix) for $1,400ish and spend the other $1,500 on a system. I have pretty good deals on audio because my shop pretty much matches ebay prices but the Volk dealers have been telling me to stay away from Axis rims since they are lower quality.

Advice please

i had axis hiros on my old z and they were awesome
compared to my friends GT-S's my HIRO's looked like they were of little lesser quality

but for for the money its the best bang for the buck

i got my wheels 19x8.5 19x10.5 245/35, and 295/30 continental tires all for $2300 out the door

great price compared to my friend who paid alot more for his gts's

Honestly, I would go with Volks or any other major brand. The quality is far superior over Axis. Just my opinion though.

take your time, dont rush it.

if you're dead set on hiros, i say go for it but dont settle for them. you'll just get buyers remorse and regret the fact you shelled out $1300-1500 for wheels you don't absolutely love. buy the volks and save up for the system.

If there is one thing that can change your looks swiftly and effectively, that thing is the wheels. I think that based on that premise you want to get the best you can on this department.

Now, of course Volk dealers will tell you to stay away from any other brand, and even though they are right about the Volk being better in quality than the Axis (forged vs cast, etc., etc.) it does not mean that you can't get good quality Axis wheels. The Axis Hiros look amazing on the Z and have good quality. It seems that the odd cracking issue is now solved -I read about this on another forum- and you should be good to go.

Still, take your time and measure what you want (or need, if applicable) out of your money.

Good luck with your decision!!

I have an old thread with my car on Hiro's. I've had my 19" Axis Hiros in Anthracite for 13K miles on Toyo T1R's and I am very satisfied. No problems whatsoever. I even hit some bad potholes.

So pick style of wheel you want that will completely satisfy you. If the Volk satisfies you more, then get it. If you think the Hiro looks simple and clean enough for you, then get that plus the system. I'm sure the Volk quality is higher than Axis, but Axis still has more than enough quality to survive street driving.

I got my Hiro's when they cost $1050 shipped on ebay. Now everyone knows the quality is fine and they're $1,400 now. The choice was easy for me b/c spending $3,500 and wheels and tires was not an option for me. The tires are $900 alone.

With $3500 to play with, I would look into getting some used Volks. I am not a big fan of the Axis line, except for the Penta and Matrix, and love many of the Volk wheels. If you search, slightly used Volks can go for $2,500 which would still give you $1K left over.

Asthetically, wheels will be your most eye catching mod

I have VOLK GT-7's and they are the best quality rim I have ever had on any of my cars. I ordered mine from STATUIS Auto Performance, who by the way is a member here. They will match or beat anyone's price and may have the rims and tires you want in stock. I would definately go VOLK, and definately call STATUS! By the way, here are some pics of mine, they are 19x9.5 in front and 19x10.5 in the rears and are wrapped in Yokohamas.

I believe your decision should be based on what you are looking for in a wheel. If it is just looks there are many wheels I think you will be satisfied with. Now throw in the weight factor, like most performance minded people do, your options become slimmer. Wheel shopping is always fun and stressful. You can't go wrong with Volk!

Buy my wheels then get yourself a system! Don't buy Axis, they crack!

doing a half-decent audio system in the Z will probably run > 1500 hook-ups or not (at one point before doing the cage, I had spent over 4x that much getting stuff at cost / dealer accommodation prices).

just get what wheels you want, you can always do audio later.

Your Z looks pretty great bro!

You guys are killing me here though. My rim of choice is definately the Volks but I didn't even really consider "buyers remorse". I can see how I can regret it though if I don't pick what I really want. Kinda like dating the wrong girl and then finding the one you really want to be with and realizing that your stuck with the one that you settled for
