Back from powdercoating!!
ok, so I gots my wheels back last night.
the black turned out awesome, exactly as I wanted. not Gloss, but not flat. we called it "sheeny" satin-y even.
It is a poly-urethane clear coat named "black magic" we color matched from pictures of the Time attack rims and the Nismo concept RS wheels. I wanted a touch more shine than those so we did some samples and matched it up.
ok, pics: (my camera phone sucks... yes I know Dvan!... so the color is nasty) once they are installed (tonight hopefully) I'll get some hi-res shots of them on. and yes that is my hand in the one shot and I am not wearing a glove...
the blue stuff is just masking tape to protect the lip when I was transporting them.
they are:
Volk TE37 19x8.5f // 19x10.5r w/ blue ray's valve stems
I wanted to paint the lettering but the paint marker isn't cutting it. I am going to try a sponge and see.
any ideas?
in person (and with a Hi-res camera) they are even better. seriously.
First, my friend Doug did this, he owns a company called "Deviant-Creations" who do all sorts of powdercoating. (free plug, lol)
ok, but the important part about his business: He is a awesome guy and really cares about this stuff. He was on the phone with metalurgists, Powder reps, etc. trying to figure out how this color is gonna turn out before shooting it, and if these forged rims will degrade from the heat. He delt with all this stuff and brought up some of it to me. details. Also, he doesn't keep alot of powder on hand for a great reason (besides unused unventory...) he told me that "virgin" powder is the best and coats the smoothest. as powder is stored it degrades and sucks up a little moisture as well, making it not as good. so he doesn't buy in bulk just to keep costs down...
Second, His prices are great. at least 10 bucks less than anyone else around here AND he actually coats the entire wheel.(if you don't know, alot of places only do the rim face) and he prepped them and cleaned up the curbage great. the turn around was quick as all hell as well. The powder delivery was delayed so he couldn't start until Monday (not his fault) so it was two days... not bad.
I would recommend him to anyone. he is a member of my local car club controlled insanity and is a enthusiast himself. (the red vette I posted some races of...)
He is located in Merchantville, NJ (south jersey) but does work on Yachts all the way down to Ocean City, MD... just depends on the project. he said he will be getting into anodizing soon as well. and getting a bigger oven... ithink he said "so i can just drive the whole car into it..." lol.
man, wait until some hi-res shots....

That should allow you to post larger pics.
