Default Tire sizes!!

I recently got an 06 Enthusiast MT. And it always puts a smile on my face, especially after a local autocross event. The stock RE040's are ok on dry, but horrible on wet. Overall, I think they are way over priced. First, does anyone know what the max tire size you can put on the new 8'' fronts and 8.5'' rear rims? And further more, any suggestions on brands?

I just looked at the treadware rating of the RE040 and it's 140. That should be pretty good in the rain. Street tires don't get much softer than that. Maybe something with a directional tread patter will help with hydroplaning.

I'd try a 255/40-18 in the rear and stick with the 235's up front. BTW, my Toyo T1R's are the ill shiznit, just so you know, and BFG KDW's from what I've heard as well.

245/40/18 in front - 265/40/18 in back. I wouldn't try anything bigger.

Thanks guys for the info, actually I was kinda of leaning towards the RE050A's Pole Position. Awesome tires and they are on sale now through Tire Rack. But Lou, you sure you can go that wide on 8" and 8.5" ? That's 2 cms wider than stock?

Look here:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...e1=yes&place=7
They recommend a 9" wheel as a minimum for a 265/40 tire, but 8.5" should work fine, but I wouldn't go any wider on an 8.5" wheel.
