Thinner is better on snow, so the usual recommendation is 225/50/17 front and 225/55/17 rears to maintain the stagger. You can go 225/55/17 all round if you want to rotate the tires, but it may affect VDC (if you have it).

That's what I've been using the past couple of seasons. They work fine.

I just bought a set of wheels and snow tires for my 06 ZR. I also live in MN, and I'll drive the Z every day unless there's more than a few inches of snow on the ground. I got Hankook 225/50 fronts and 225/55 rears on 17 x 8" Voxx wheels from Discount Tire Direct. As noted, this keeps the stagger and is a very cost-effective solution on 17's.

Because the 06 uses an 18 inchers, the larger sidewall of the snows keeps the overall diameter to within .1" (stock vs 17" example above), which is ideal.

You failed to mention the width of the wheel. Its a significant factor.

17 x 7: 215 plus or minus 20mm

17 x 8: 235 plus or minus 20mm

Keep in mind that for snow thin is in.

On the OEM 17" wheels, i ran 225/50/17 fronts and 235/50/17 rears (which are the stock size tires on those wheels) for snows last year. With these proper sizes you wont have any issues with the speedo or VDC, and they worked great.
