Yeah, stockers from dealership at retail cost can get you into a nice set of aftermarket rims

DAMN MAN...My girlfriend's wheels got stolen yesterday too!

She has a civic and was parked in between a covette and a 911, and some idiots decided to steal her rims. The put one side of her car up on an old steal rim they found laying in the garage, and on the other side, get this...they had it resting on a PAINT CAN!

The paint can didn't hold too well, and part of the car's weight was resting on the front brake rotor...no damage luckily though.

The worst part about it is that she lives in an apartment where the garage is key-accessed...but suprise suprise, the building manager never fixed a door that was stuck open.

She and the detective asked the building manager for the security tapes, and she claimed "you couldn't see the license plates from that angle." Later one of the maintainence guys went to her and the cop and told them that the manager was lying about watching the tape (apparently she never knew how to work the survelience computer). The maintainance guy showed them the tape, but it "mysteriously" stopped recording in the suspected time of the theft...so now the manager or staff is suspected of the theft, or aiding the theives.

I'm sure you ended up handling the sitation ok, but my girlfriend was all tears yesterday. I was trying to locate a place in the area to get rims for her, but no one could get a set until Friday. Finally i decided to leave work, convince a local tire place to let me pick up rims from their warehouse and drive the 2.5 hours down to the NYC area to put them on her car....this time with two comlpetely different brands of locking lug nuts as well.

Sorry to hear about your loss

I think the reason they put it up on blocks (or in my gf's case on a rim and a paint can), is so that they can remove their jack.

after my girl went to the police, they said another car had the same thing happen, but was completely on the ground with the jack still stuck under one side.

i honestly don't think locking nuts help all that much vs theft, it's easy enough to drill into them to get them loose. It just helps vs the amateurs.

I think they definitely serve as a hurdle to having your wheels stolen. I'm sure the pro's have master keys and all, but amatuers will be more weary to start the extra steps of drilling or trying to force a socket onto the lock nut. Time is everything, and putting different hurdles in place might help in detering some.

I'm sure people saw it, but didn't say anything until after the fact.

I used to work for AAA, and would occasionally have to unlock cars. Sometimes when all of our trucks were out on tows, I would just take my chevy to the call (no sign or indication that I was a AAA guy). There were times where i would unlock the car while the driver wasn't there (can't do that anymore), and people would walk by and just give me dirty looks or stares, but NOT A SINGLE PERSON EVER ASKED WHAT I WAS DOING!! I mean, I'm a brown guy that looks like I'm tying to break into someone's car. If i saw me doing that, I would call the police. Friggin mob mentality ...

Since you parked in two spaces maybe the extra room besides the car let them work easier and faster.

Rate shouldn't go up. I've had two hit and runs (luckily not on my Z) which is basically about the same as what happened to you. my rate stayed the same.
