Thanks for all input guys,
So it sounds like 245 in the front and 265 in the rear is the way to go on the stock rims. I'll get some sways on order ASAP and coilovers are in the works so hopefully I will see an improvement for my next auto x event.

I was on VRT's site to see what they where running on their cars with aftermarket rims and they run 285/30/18 in the front and 315/30/18 in the rear. I have checked around on the forums here but haven't seen any comments on this size tire( Rims are 8,5 in the front and 9,5 in the back).

If I was to buy aftermarket wheels and tires would this be a better set up then say 285 all around or stretching a narrow tire on a wide rim? Has anyone had the chance to test this? Probably overkill, but I am a wide tire *****

Holy geebuz! 285/315? VRT has that much rubber because their cars are all TT and 400whp+. Unless you're going forced induction you don't need that much rubber. It's just extra weight.

I don't think 285 all-around would be good. The 275's I have on my rears look great, feel great, and seem about the widest I'd go personally.

Your 245/265 setup should be really good.

Yeah that does seem like over kill I am definately gonna go with the 245/265 set up and then might go larger when I go FI.

Just to confound things...I've been doing some more research and came across an interesting article about the tire width vs. rim width...might want to read before you make your purchase as the gist is that you want the tire to be narrower than the rim for a multitude of performance reasons.

If you are looking to just fill up the wheel wells visually then go for it, but you will likely not see a lateral performance gain or improved steering response.

Best performance gain, according to the aforementioned article, would be seen sticking with the stock sizes and going with stickier rubber.

Excellent article thank you.

Ideally we would all run very wide wheels with a (Compartively speaking) narrow tire.

For instance running a 10,5 rim with 265 tires on it. This would give you sidewall strength which in turn leads to better performance. These findings was tested by a fellow member (Drumma02) and there was a little stir as people reacted to running a "narrow" tire on a wide rim. I guess this article prooves the points made in this post.

I swap my front 8.0 for someones 8.5. I run 275/35 front and 275/40 rear. Understeer is gone and the car handles awesome. Also, VDC does not care at all and has not had any problems.

Interestingly enough, in the zenophile reading, no one uses wider than 265.

this is very good thread.
I have 06 anniversary 18 wheels. planning to use 15mm and 20mm spacers.
can anyone suggest widest tires for front and rear.
could i even go same size all around?(just to save on money)

Why would you save money on a same size tire? You would have to do it 245 all around which will be too slim for the rear. Go wider on the back. Difference is not much.

true. i was reading a thread about a guy that was running same tires all around. but his was around 265 or something.

would 245/265 work on the 06-18inchers using 15mm-20mm spacers?
im not lowered.

Because you can rotate all 4 of them if they start to wear unevenly or something. That'll get you a few extra miles of use. With a staggered setup you can't = buy new tires instead of rotating them.

Don't. That is NOT the balance you want for track unless you go to a wider rim. You'll just shrink and soften the contact patch. More like 9.5-10" rim, maybe.

If the car isn't presenting the ideal contact patch to the track, you could have 300's and it wouldn't help overall traction. If your track is not too rough, stock springs and dampers actually work reasonably well, but when replacing I'd go about 25% stiffer and maybe 0.5" drop, no more, and look at Teins or similar for replacement shocks.

DO sways, hotchkis are nice due to many possible adjsutments. I also found the RE040s were actually pretty decent on the track but with a wear rating of 150 they of course don't last too long. Pilot sports have served me much better, but are not exactly the longest wearing tire, either - better, but not great considering the $$$.

Also I suspect people who say the car handles great with 265's on all 4 corners are NOT running any stock suspension springs, sways, dampers - that would overwhelm the stock setup and unbalance the handling. That kind of tire/wheel change should only be done at the same time as upgrading other suspension components.

The car starts out with pretty darn good balance, just needs a little more traction, more controlled anti-sway, and eventually a little better spring/shock setup. After 04 the stock rear springs got stiffer, something like 350 to 427, so I guess Nissan agrees...

IMHO, too wide for 8.5" rim, too much tire for stock 06 suspension.

Great link, thanks! I noticed right away, check out the car on page 1: Qualified 1st, on 225/40/17's - not 265/18's, not even 245/18's...but he is running 4 "same" size tires, I think - not entirely sure.

There's are reason you don't see lowest possible profile/wide tires on cars for the track - they're heavy. If the track involves a lot a accelleration, vs. a high speed cruising track, heavier wheels all things considered = slower. My stock 18's on the G-Coupe weigh 5 lbs apiece more than the stock 17's on my 350Z. That's a LOT of rotating and unsprung weight x 4 corners. Granted his car is certainly lighter, but point is even my stock 225/235's on my Z handled well on the track - traction was not the limiting factor, more like driver skill
