Default Winter Tire Size?

Sorry for this potentially stupid question......

What size of winter tire should we get?
Stock have front 225/45/18 rear 245/45/18. I am going with 17" steelies, and it works out to be front 225/50/17 and rear 225/55/17 so the overall diameter will be the same. But I called few tire shops and they said most of the time people use the same size all around. One shop suggested 225/50/17 all around and the other said 225/55/17 all around. What do you guys think? Will I have any problem with TCS or VDC if I have the same size all around? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

For winter tires thin is in. A 17x7 wheels works well. The rear tires should be 10mm taller than the front.

I'm running 215/65/16 Blizzaks on steel wheels all round.

Nice and narrow to cut through the snow and slush.

I've been running non stagger for 3 years now (summer, winter, Solo2) and there's zero issues, VDC works as usual.

The tire sizes recommended will be within .1" of the stock diameters, thereby retaining the stagger. There will be no negative effect on TCS and/or VDC. It will tolerate about an inch difference in diameter between front and rear. Use a tire size calculator like this one: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Take a look at this post to see what I ended up with for winter wheels and tires: https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-tires/233668-pics-of-my-new-winter-wheels-and-tires.html

I called tirerack and got a set from them. I already went through a test fit, and they work just fine.

Front:
17x7 Sport Edition E2
225/50/17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22

Rear:
17x7 Sport Edition E2
235/50/17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22

I just got my winter tires on and the car have a small vibration if I brake slightly harder. ABS didn't kick in. Is this normal for car equips with winter tires?

Absolutely not normal... Did you mount the wheels in accordance with the correct torque specs (about 85 lb-ft per lug nut) and bolt-tightening pattern? You should always recheck your wheel torque a couple of weeks after initial mounting, but it sounds like there's something wrong right off the bat. It could be a loose wheel or two or something else that's not quite right. You should check it out and get if fixed asap!
