who cares how they look, they are winter wheels.

 

Thanks for posting. I'm glad to see that there are other people out there like me who don't have the option of parking their Z all winter. By the way, are you running equal tire sizes all around or did you get slightly wider for the rear?

I didnt want to use the stock wheels due to several reasons:
1. Easier to switch these myself when the snow starts falling. I dont need to have to take the car to a shop to have the tires mounted.
2. Cost. 17" winter tires are much cheaper than 18's
3. Wear. I wanted to keep the stock wheels in good shape, so I figured that keeping them out of the snow/salt would help
4. Better traction. I could get a narrower tire on the 17's which will help with traction in the snow

And to be honest, they dont look bad at all considering how cheap they were. Hopefully they hold up well throughout the winter months.

Cool, I got the same tire sizes. Be careful pushing the car around corners....235 width winter tires seem to grab dry pavement a lot less than 245 width 'performance' tires. Now I am almost wishing it would snow just so I can try these out.

 

The traction hasnt been bad. Of course, I'm taking it easy on them because I have heard that they wear pretty quickly on dry roads.

Funny story. About a little over a week ago, we got a nice little snow storm. I still had the stock tires/wheels on and could not even back out of my gf's driveway with less than 1" of snow. It was ridiculous. I could not believe how poor the stock tires functioned in the snow. At this time, the winter wheels were just sitting on my living room floor (good place for them, huh?!).

So, the next day the snow was pretty much gone and I finally got around to putting the winter tires on. Well, ever since that day, its been in the 50's and 60's. There still isnt a sign of any snow in the forecast.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you...waiting for the snow so I can see how well these perform.

 

LOL yeah I know what you mean. We haven't had more than a flurry here in eastern PA but about 1.5 weeks ago it was in the 30's so I thought it was a good time to make the swap. Then like everywhere else in the northeast its been 50-60 like you said and I feel like my tires are just wearing away. Oh well...we'll get blasted here soon enough, and then I'll wish it wasn't snowing again.

 

Ohhhhh, yeah. The difference between the stock tires and good snow tires is huge when it comes to ice and snow. That's a great choice of tires and wheels, considering that those wheels take a literal beating in the snow and salt and crap on the roads. It is indeed humorous to see the responses from the southern forum members.
