Default TPS light wont shut off no matter what I do.

I tried searching, but couldn't find a thread that had the same problems.

This is on my girlfriends 350Z. We swapped her stock wheels for some Volks without the TPS in them. Her TPS light was on prior to switching the wheels, because the stock ones were low. Now the light stays on constantly. It has been on for days now, I have tried disconnecting the battery overnight and when I hooked it back up, the TPS was still on. Is this something that the '06 models do? My '03 works fine without TPS sensors. I really don't want to have to put the OEM back wheels on just to clear the light and then swap wheels again to see if that works.

Any way to specifically reset the TPS system?

No sensors = light forever.

There is no way to disable the TPS warning when it doesn't detect the sensors.

Is this something new for the '06? I have no TPS on my '03 and that light never comes on.

It is more than likely due to the fact that some minor changes were made in the system after 03. You need the TPS in the wheels to avoid the lights coming on, end of story.

That effing sucks. How come I have never heard or seen anybody else having problems with aftermarket wheels after '03? Will the TPS even work with 19" wheels?

This just put me in a bad mood.

If the tires are being stored next to the car then the light will come on sooner then if the sensors were not found at all...

Nope, they are at two completely different houses. Its not like it comes on every once in a while, it never shuts off.

The TPS will work fine if you just reinstall them into the wheels. FYI it is illegal to remove them from the wheels.

Yes, they are considered a safety device. Technically it is illegal to remove them. Supposedly they are going to become standard equipment on all cars by 2010.

It's not illegal for an individual to remove them from a wheel. It IS illegal for a dealer or mechanic to disable the TPMS that is standard equipment on a car.

It has worked the same way since the 03 models. Not sure why you don't see the warning on yours, unless it never came with it in the first place. Lot's of people have been having this problem, most just learn to live with it or move the sensors to their new wheels.

Yes, they fit 19" wheels, depending on the type of wheel. I have mine in my 19" forged Volks. They don't fit the normal mounting method (valve stem) for a lot of multi-piece wheels - in that case you have to use the banding method.

If I'm not mistaken unless you have an '03 touring/track model they did not have the TPMS. TPMS was standard on my '05 Enthusiast but not on my found on my friends '04. For '06 I think the TPMS was standard on all models, not sure though. As stated about, TPMS sensors can be moved to aftermaket wheels, on one piece no mod is needed and on 2/3 piece wheels they need to be banded because those wheels use an L shaped valve. I have Volk LE37's and have the TPMS sensors w/ no issues. In this case SIZE DOES NOT MATTER!!! Sensors may not be as accurate though. Good luck man.

I have an '03 track model with TPS. It does come on with my '03 but only after like 50 miles of continuous driving. I know that is normal, but in my girlfriend's case, hers is constantly on from the second you turn the car on to the second you turn it off. She has the Volk GTS so they would need to be banded I guess. I don't know what "banding" is but I will research the forums. If I go to a tire place and say "I need these TPS banded to these wheels," should they know what to do?

Good luck, no one in my area wants to fool with changing rims and not being able to reuse the tps and when you just need new tires they charge extra for vehicles with tps.
My service guy at the dealership told me to just pull the light, he also said he couldn't do it and not to tell anyone that he told me, "thats the best way to solve the problem with after market wheels"

^^^So you also have the problem that the light is constantly on? I just want to make sure that everybody is thinking of the same problem. I have heard of the problem that the light will come on after driving for a while, but as much as I have been involved with the Z community and as much as I have been around Zs with aftermarket wheels, I have never even heard of the TPS light constantly staying lit.

I'm still on stock wheels, the service dept guys at my local dealer told me the light would stay on all the time if the wheels I wanted to get couldn't use my tps. I have an 06 if that matters.

Banding is when they strap it to the barrel inside the tire, I wouldn't do it if I were you. Try to just live with the light, put a smiley face sticker over that part of the dash. You also have the option of drilling a second valve stem hole on the inner side of the wheel.

The car "remembers" that tire pressure was low the last time it did get a reading. Put the OEM wheels back on (with proper pressure) and drive a while. The light will turn off. Then change back to the new wheels and it should behave the same way your's does.

Nano had the same problem.
