How do TPS sensors work?
The sensors are actually small transmitters. There is an antenna in the A-pillar that picks up the signal. Each transmitter has a unique ID, that ID is registered with the system so it know which signal is associated with which wheel.

So you are saying for example every RF transmit the same signal no matter which car they are from or are they unique to the car? I would assume it's universal considering the fact people buy and sell them all the time.
Correct, they are universal in the signal they transmit. The signal includes a unique ID which the system uses to identify the sensors that are installed on a particular car. That's why if you buy some from somebody, they won't automatically work until they've been registered to the computer on the car.
so if your car didn't come equipped with TPS, like my enthusiast model, would I still have the receiver in the A-pillar? And if so, would my trip computer adjust to give the TPS display screen once it detected them?

anybody know if two sets of TPMS can be registered with the computer? I have 2 sets, one for my stock and one for aftermarket. If it doesn't work, i'm not going to bother going to the dealer.

If you're going to be swapping back and forth, it's going to get expensive having the dealer reset them every time.
The sensors contain a battery with a life of about 7 years. It only turns on when the wheel is rotating above 20 mph.
