Why staggered tires if wheels are not staggered??

An other important reason is good old styling. Staggered setup look faster...
My understanding was that the tire feathering was fixed by changing a shim in the front suspension, whether it was a tie-rod adjustment, or a change in the "location" of the hub so that the toe was corrected you can bet it was due to a toe issue.

All I can figure is they had the toe set in so that the car would be more stable at highway speeds (which makes understeer even more prevalent....even safer ).
