Wheel Locks and Flat Tires
I bought my car used back in October. I got my first flat last week on the right rear tire. I almos got excited about this because the tire doesn't match the other three on the car. I took it in and they fixed the flat (bummer) and I got out without paying anything.
I heard a clicking yesterday while driving and and when I got home I saw the front left tire had a screw in the middle of the tread. I went back to have it fixed and then this happened. I looked out in the bay and the guys were rummaging through my car. First they were both trying to find the glove box in front of the passenger seat. Then they pulled up the hatch mat and looked behind the seat. They came in and told me that there wasn't a key for the wheel lock. I told them that I was there just a two days before and they got the other wheel off just fine and didn't need one.
We looked at the other wheel and it had a different lug on it than the others. The guys said that either the guy there broke the lug and replaced it and didn't tell me or that I didn't have a lock on there to begin with.
I decided not to break the lug off there and went to the dealership. I rolled in the service bay and told them what happened. I went inside and 10 minutes laster the service guy walked up and handed me a new key and said he put on a new set. No charge and out I went.
Props to the dealership for taking care of me. I am betting that this happened to the previous owner and they didn't have the key either so they broke it and replaced the tire.
Check your lugs and look for your key before you get stuck like I did!!!
