IMO people think the PS2 is the best tire simply bc it costs more. Most people on this site don't even have them nor have driven on them but still feel its the best tire. From my experience I can tell you that I like the RE050A PP's better and they are much cheaper... If you have a luxury/sports car like an M5 than the PS2 is for you as it is an all encompassing tire that is good at everything. If you want a barebones performance tire with excellent handling characteristics and crisp turn in...then the S0-3's and RE050A PP's are for you..

IMO Bridgestone makes the best performance tires. I wanted to try KDW2's but I've heard the sidewalls are soft also albeit not as much as the T1-R's.

I've owned and driven on circuit tracks with the Michelin PS2's, BFG KDW's, BFG KDW2's, Eagle F1 GS-D3's, Toyo T1-S's, Kumho 712's(worst tire ever), Falken RT615's, Falken RT-215's, Hankook RSZ212's, Bridgestone RE040's and soon the RE050A's.

I'll give the Michelin PS2's their due, they are phenominal tires that stick like a champ for being as well rounded as they are. They are predictable, have good response, great under braking- simply awesome tires. If money wasn't an object, I'd buy them hands down. But it is an object, and money is important for most of us. So at 2/3's the cost of the Michelin PS2 I believe I'll get 9.5/10ths the performance from the RE050A.

I feel like I'm hating on the Eagle F1 GS-D3. Honestly I like the tire, it's just not a performance tire I'd want on my car at the track. I'd rank it higher than the T1-S, the T1-R and the BFG KDW and even better than the Hankook RSZ212(especially under heavy braking).

If you're never going to see the track then you can't go wrong with the Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Dont believe in magazine comparisons. I am running the PS2's and highly doubt will change these tires anytime soon.

If I've learned one thing from all the tire posts it is that there is no such thing as THE best tire.

It all depends on how you drive (razor's edge or conservative), where you drive (track, street, ice/snow, etc), and what are your priorities.

The more people post about specifics the better response they will get in terms of what tires to buy.

Well said. I love people who get upset because their oe tires couldn't get them down the street in a light snow storm.

Anyone have experience with the Yokohama Advan Sports or Dunlop SP 9000 in comparison to the PS2s?

im only on my second set of tires with the Z @ 19k miles. so i cant add much to this thread. but on my civic i ran about 6 different sets. all i have to add is that stiff sidewalls and braking performance are the two most important features to a tire TO ME. with the Z i just steer with my right foot... althought grip is important, $400 more isnt worth slightly better grip (and TREAD LIFE!). but i dont track my car either so... ya. right now im running avs es-100s for the simple fact that i get yoko's at cost and that i didnt have much cash on me at the time and needed some good treadlife. my stockers wore out at 6k miles. so ive gotten like twice the milage outta cheaper tires that dont handle as well, but are slightly better in the rain.

id love to have an extra set of rims with some fat ps2s or azenis rt-615s on em tho.

Can someone please shed some light on which tire is going to add more comfort to the ride? Obviously it's a sports car, but with the first set of bridgestone's (currently at 37,000 miles on the original set) getting to the end of their useful life I'd rather gain a bit more in comfort. It's very unlikely I'm going to start gunning my track model when traffic lights change so all opinions welcome.

Thanks,
Stacy

Michelin PS2 or Falken 452. I have had both and love both. Both great on dry pavement

Ater reading several reviews on this board, I think I have narrowed it down to:

TOYO Proxes T1R

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Yokohama AVS Sport RFT

What do the experts think?

i got the Potenza RE960 AS Pole and i have to say i love those suckers. I thought i woudl never buy a brigestone tire again, but thought what the heck, and man, these suckers rock for a all season performance tire. quiet as heck too, i have to roll down the windows to hear them spinning.

I should add that I have the track model so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Thanks

If you don't really care about maximum performance in the summer and would like to be able to confidently drive your car year round including in the snow then the Bridgestone RE960AS is an incredible tire. Granted it won't make your car perform like snowmobile, but you'll be able to drive around without gripping your steering wheel in fear. It is also a lot softer sidewall than the RE050A's so comfort level will go up.

If you don't want an all-season tire then I'd suggest looking at the Eagle F1 GS-D3, Toyo T1-R or the Michelin PS2. The Falken FK452's are good tires but they have a fairly stiff sidewall.

I got the 960's a few months ago and they are great tires. I actually just bought some track wheels with the stock 040's on them and can't believe how noisy they are compared to the 960's.

I think the dry traction might even be better with the 960's, but I have not been able to drive with the 040's in warmer weather.

Totally agree, and it's funny you mention dry traction with the 960's... I was impressed. Sidewalls are soft and I can't corner like I can with the RE040's or the RE050A's but the 960's had great acceleration grip. My RE040's would slip easily in comparison.

I'm now running the RE050A's(not to be confused with the RE040 or RE050's). They have gotten progressively stickier after putting some miles on them(only 200 miles so far) and am hoping for good results come this weekend at VIR.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on my 911 and I love them. They grip like no tomorrow. If you want a great all around street tire, they're hard to beat. They're great for autocross as well. I wouldn't get them if you plan on running ovals with your car.

When my wife needs new tires for her Z, I'll more than likely be putting a set of these on.

Tire Rack reviews have the RE050A Pole Position ranked as the #1 tire in the Max performance category.

I have the OEM RE050A tires (not pole position model) on my '06 G coupe and I love them. I like them better than the Michelin Pilot Sports that came with my '04 coupe.
