Default Biggest tire for a 18x9.5 wheel, help please!!!

Hello everyone, I am a total newbie when it comes to wheels/tires so I would like a little help here.

I have my Work Emotion CR Kai's coming in soon, they are 18x9.5, +20mm offsets on all four's.

I've been researching this for a LONG *** time, and have been told that I should be able to run a 295/30 tire on the rear, some even have said 295/35 would be OK.

I have also had other people warn me to not try running a 295 because of potential problems.

So I turn to the wheel/tire Gurus here, what is the biggest, hugest tire you would advise me running on these 18x9.5 +22 wheels?

Thanks!!!

285's are the widest recommended width for a 9.5, so 285/40/18 if you can find it

295s on a 9.5 wheel regardless of offset is a poor application.

Found!

BFG KDW G-Force N/T

$272.99 for 285/40R18 per tire (mounted)

$240.99 for 275/35R18 per tire (mounted)

Seems like a reasonable price to me.

Any info here? Someone told me a 275/40 setup for the front will not be a good setup.

I'll see if the KDW N/T comes in a 265/35 then . . . . . maybe?

Thanks

I've seen people run 275/35/18 front on a 9.5 rim with a +30 offset. (with a 275/40/18 rear)

I'm running 265/35/18 with a 275/35/18 rear with 4 wheels @ 9.5 Wide with a +22 offset

I run 265/35/18 front on a 9.5 rim with a +30 offset. I'm also running 295/35/18 rear on 10.5 Wide with a +22 offset that had to be shaved down to +18 so the tire would not rub. There is just a C-hair of room, but it clears. I am going to shave 2-3 mm on the fender lip so there is more room, but this is just as a preventative measure. I have the g-force KD's and, in those width's, I love it! I stick very well!

However, to answer your question, on 9.5's I would go 265/35/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. 285's might rub under compression. One more thought...if you go 265/35/18 at all 4 corners, you should not rub at all and you can rotate the tires without dismounting! That way you get plenty of meat under the car and DIY rotation capability.

How is shaving the rim going to decrease your offset?

So it looks like you have 3 options....
* Find a 285 for your wheels
* research what the stickiest (leagal) 275 you can buy is and get a set
* Buy wider rear rims and approperatly sized tires..

It seems to me (I've been wrong before) That if you can't play with the tire sizes too the next thing you should look at is the tire compound.

Use a 35 series sidewall if your going above 275 in the rear .. this will look and fit better than a bulky 40 series sidewall.

Is a 35 series sidewall still enough rubber to protect the rim?

I'm looking into this same exact situation right now (Work Emotion CAI) but I am looking at running the +20 application, 8.5" up front and 9.5" rear. I was going to run 245/40 in the front and 275/40 in the rear as this seemed to be the optimal setup, but the KDW-2's don't come in a 275/40 but they do come in a 285/40. I am not lowered yet.

From what I've researched:

225/40 --> 255/40 = .2% too slow on the speedo
225/40 --> 255/35 = 3.6% too fast on the speedo

245/40 --> 275/40 = .01% too fast on the speedo
245/40 --> 285/40 = 1.1% too slow on the speedo
245/40 --> 285/35 = 3.1% too fast on the speedo

I don't want to upset the VDC either if it detects a difference between the tire speeds if I run a 40 series up front and a 35 series in the rear.

^^^then 275/40 should be good then. Optimum would be the key to the application.

Do NOT look for recommendations from the tire manufacture. Tire engineers have years of experience in safety and performance, but don’t know squat about looking cool.

IIRC, VRT runs 315s in the 9.5" Nismo rims and swears by them.

I'd run, if I were you, 255x40 up front and 275x40 rear.

I'm think your being sarcastic, but sometimes I have trouble telling. Haha.

I only ask because I like the BF Goodrich KDW-2's, but they don't make a 275/40/18. So I was exploring two options:

1) Different sizes.
2) If I can't find another size that fits, I guess I'll have to try some different rubber.

I run a 285/35-18 on a 18x9.5 rim and I would not go any bigger.
