Default wheel barrel powder coating / anodizing

seems very unique than the standard polished wheel look... but i remember there was a 350z with a volk or similar multipiece wheel that had the barrels powdercoated or anodized.

i have DB volk gtc but wanted to powdercoat/anodize the whole wheel in gold or perhaps black. not sure... but what do you guys think?

any photochoppers are welcome

tia,
andy.

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to anodize the rims. The process of anodizing is used generally on raw metal. If your rims are already painted, clear-coated or powder coated, I don't think it will work.

But, you can powder coat the whole wheel including the lip. If you wanted to do something really crazy, you could powdercoat the face of the wheel gold and the lip the same color as the car or vice versa.

Wheels are usually a bad application for wheels. Anodizing produces a layer only a few atoms thick, scratches easy ect. It does have its pluses, but not for wheels. Stick to powdercoating for wheels. Much stronger finish and handles the stresses of a wheel better.

well after a local car wash removed the anodize layer off of my volks to yield raw aluminum (not ever going to car washes again), my lips have been oxidized and look dull... similar to machined aluminum. if volks have the barrels anodized, why not re-anodize them again?

powdercoating would be a better choice i see, but will it yield a high lustrous metallic look achieved from anodizing?

I don't think Volk wheels are anodized, they've got a layer of clear coat on the polished lips.

Its about the only way to get truly polished lips though other than chroming. Powdercoating or painting a highly polished lip usually results in a cloudy look and issues with adhesion

yeah... well, nothing much going on in there besides photo theft. but i do love the gold lips on that GTC... i'd do it on the whole wheel itself. the luster is actually quite great. must be better in person.
