Default Lugnut lock broke off and need some help!

I bought some new rims, and when I was tightning up one lugnut locks it broke. It sheered 1/3 of the top off, and when I look into the lug lock itself, it has a missing piece. My question is, what is the best way to try and get it off without scratching up my new rims. These are the factory lugnut locks. Any advise would be great. Thanks..

Default somewhat of a safe removal

well i had a problem where i had lost my lock nut and had read many forums suggesting to try and crack the locknut...wasnt going to even try that...however with real realative ease i did this...i hammered on a tight fiting imperial socket right over the whole thing then gently with an impact gun just slowly reversed it off... worked like a charm i did however only get two rims off with one socket then had to buy another socket and got the other two off...hope this helps

I had the same problem and used locknut's solution. Hammer a 3/4" (IIRC) socket on the lock and take it off with an impact wrench.

If it won't come loose, try this trick... tighten the two nuts adjacent to the stuck lock and loosen the remaining two. That will take some of the pressure off the lock and it will come loose easier.

They make a kit, that has swirled edges in it. Its a regular half in. drive. identical to an impact socket only with edges in it to dig into the lock to spin it off. Hammer a 6 or 12 pt socket on there. make sure you get it on as far as it will go. gently spin it off. being in the tire buisness i do this a cupple times a week.

On a side note BE CARFULL your first attempt. a buddy of mine hammered on a 21 mill impact socket and it split in half shot up and cut his chin open, nice little trip to the emergency room. And to make your life easier trust me when i say this. the more times you spin the socket on the wheel lock the harder is is to get off. If it starts to spin, stop and hammer harder on it.
